Born Anew As A Father

With every passing day I am growing in my vocation as a foster parent. I am meditating on the way of life I am walking.

The Divine Call of a Foster Father

I live a vocation, a divine call
Of wholly different kind
Rarest of the rare, it is
In moments of prayer I did find
Matrimony, priesthood and religion
Are the calls three they say
But I have been blessed by God
To walk a new and different way

I have dared to love the unloved
In my words and deed
I’ve kept the vows unuttered
Not because of compulsion or need.
I’ve chosen to care for the uncared
Embrace those who are thrown
I’ve been born anew as father
To many children not of my own.

A priest forever of an unknown order
Offering sacrifice of body and soul
Saying sighing prayers day and night
And making broken hearted whole
Not a Don Bosco or Mother Teresa
Not a saint, in the world a folly
I am a disciple of a way unnamed
Weak yet strong, unholy yet holy
