Building Enormous Edifices on Thin Base

The march of science and technology is gathering speed but our base, foundation, remains primitive. Only an inclusive journey – the oneness of creation embellished with the uniqueness in each of us – can carry the day. There is no one size fits all in the creative process that we are part of.

Meaning in Existence

That we have come thus far and moving at a faster clip ahead is beyond doubt. Our progress in science and technology is gathering speed by the day. We are having more choices to keep us engaged with time being the constraint. We know to use/manipulate our resources to value add and aware of the deleterious effects of the paths we take. Nature has been benevolent in the sense it wipes the slate clean to give a new beginning each day, month and year. Nature’s occasional fury tells us no one is indispensable – life will go on without us; we may self-destruct but it would not matter at all to the creative process! Nature rejuvenates itself and it is also part of the whole creative process. We are given stability to carry on our lives, make long term planning without a hitch from nature or other species – we are sort of the lord of all we survey! That should make us pause and ponder the steps we take as we may not get another chance if we blow the blessings that have been bestowed – well, for a purpose! I believe there is an underlying meaning behind our existence and it is for us to find a deeper sense to take the right path.

Foreboding of Uncertainty amid Stability

When it looks like there is no concrete evidence or guidance given for a certain way, we have the choice to take individual paths within a truly shared journey. There is no need to kill another as we have resources to support all including our fellow travelers. And the basics are free with free board and lodging; the rest are luxuries! We have been adding to our needs; in fact, more of luxuries are become needs with each passing generation! That leads to nature paying a heavy price for our overindulgence but so far it has lived up to the label “mother nature” – forbearing and accommodating like a loving mother to all! Whether we deserve such is debatable and pricks the conscience of some like me! We have been lucky in so far as we manage to survive in one piece but there is always a tinge of uncertainty within everyone that something untoward can happen anytime – beware and keep on our toes is the inner prompt that is passed on from generation to generation.

Basics Matter

Most issues exist from time immemorial, sort of inherent, built-in in our psyche that we have tried to shake off without success. In personal lives we are told to think positive and those who do so share their success stories to motivate others. I like to list few essentials that bog us down without let-up.

Festering Issues: There have been few that are seen as root causes of injustice. Can we not address them under one body representing all like the United Nations?

Transparency: Now it usually transpires after the event that the intentions of major interventions were motivated by not what they were touted to be. Facts were suppressed and even allies were led down a garden path and finally left to clutch at straws. This widens the trust deficit with each passing adventure.

Country Borders: People within should decide for themselves – outside interference makes a bad situation worse. Regime change based on a helicopter view should stop. It will unite the disparate groups at loggerheads against the outsider and the majority peace-loving. To drive home the point - how would a big power feel if their elected leaders are targeted for regime change by an outsider!

Disarmament: This has been my refrain and as I was posting my previous article highlighting this increasing threat to humanity the Paris terrorists struck with assault rifles and bombs! It is no more knives or mere guns! But we want to treat only the symptoms.

One World, Society: We should do what is right for a shared journey and even make it enjoyable. History has taught us what is required from us – at least the pitfalls from intolerance. Now we are flailing our arms after repeating our mistakes ad nauseam.

Artificial Barriers

We may be able to take nature for granted but not the path we take increasingly. We are enslaved by our ego, greed, and the take one rule for us and another for the rest as a norm. We tend to look for flaws in others while being blissfully ignorant of our own. We refuse to change, budge an inch, while expecting others to appreciate and agree to our point of view. If everyone, society, country, is imprisoned within such a take, without live and let live, then we will forever find ourselves in a cesspool of hatred, suspicion and strife. That has been a reality and we are like a frog in a well pulling others down. We will forever be stymied by blinkered vision; how does a frog know the vastness of an ocean – not that it really matters to it, but for us it does as the well we find ourselves in is becoming poisoned by our actions. Only a meeting of minds will help us with give and take, live and let live leading our way. No one person, society or country can live in isolation and country borders, beliefs are our making – creation covers all, meaning everything and no one can live outside it. After all, we are just a product of the whole process. While we build enormous edifices our foundation, base, should be strong enough to withstand the weight of our endeavors.

Sadly dear Siva ... most of the edifices built by man are built on sand and not solid rock , so through the course of time they are not good foundations .
The whole world is so far from the ways of God its Creator ..
Families are broken and disfunctional ......
Greed and hatred is rampant....
Power and destruction are the norm of the day ...
Only our heavenly Father can restore us and help us to live alongside our fellow man in unity of His Spirit ...
If we let Him .
My prayer is that we will learn to do just that before it is too late for mankind .
God bless you my friend

Thanks dear Stella for sharing your thoughts.

What is the right way is prompted from within; when in doubt - “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” guides us.

Nature is free; no one has yet claimed ownership over the air we breathe but we try to put a price on even basics and try to corner them due to our blinding greed and ego.

According to me, our Creator has done His part but we refuse to play ball as co-creators. Repeated warnings about the path we take are ignored. It is more of "my way or the highway"; brinkmanship that can eventually destroy us - siva

No size fits all, so true. Live and let live is the mantra that we all tend to forget at some point or the other, this will lead to the downfall of humanity. Great write and wisdom in your words.

Fighting for beliefs will only divide us as there will be no end. Even within a belief there are the fanatics who impose their will.

The only way is to show others how to live by the way we live - with compassion and tolerance.

And big powers should stop supplying arms to all and sundry - siva

We have to break down our mental barriers - main one is that peace is impossible.

The enemy of 99% is the 1% out to wreak havoc and that is true everywhere, every time, But they are divided by minor issues

Our leaders should be told to lose the battle of greed, false ego and pride to win the war of peace - siva

I have moved closely with people from different cultures and beliefs and they represent a microcosm of humanity - the good and bad are everywhere proving we are from the same source.

Dear Siva, In ignorance, we do many things against the universal laws of creation - especially the Law of Karma. We do not have complete knowledge of what are good/bad karmas, what are right/wrong karmas; what different types of effects and different karmas would have on me, others and nature. But we cannot just say 'I didn't know'. It is our responsibility to know. If we look at the state of the world now, there may be a few sparks of light or spiritual enlightenment but, generally, there is a great amount of darkness. That gives us an indication of the sorts of karmas the vast majority of us have been performing, due to ignorance.

Thanks dear Subra for adding value to my efforts.

We sow the same seeds and expect different produce! And that goes on as nauseam. Big powers supply armaments to corrupt regimes and when they fall into "wrong hands", they sell more potent ones to fight the newer enemies They hide their cards and make a mockery of the UN. Do we need another world war to drive home the point? Their actions of regime changes have ended up worsening a bad situation - sort of setting a cat among the pigeons (majority).

The culture of people may not suit western type of liberal democracy. Their cure is worse than the disease! Every country needs to protect its own culture, interests, as long as they don't harm another. There should be no hypocrisy in terms of what big powers preach.

The majority is held to ransom and the choke-hold of the few has to be broken. Now all, including China, India and Russia, are suffering from terrorism and what is preventing us from taking joint action?

My take is false pride, greed and self-defeating internal politics have tied our hands to stand by the 99% everywhere. We are indeed a prisoner of our past - break free is the clarion call from the 99%!
Our leaders have to be brought down to earth, reality at ground level.

We should do what is right and that we know, the prompt is within. Many, when they leave the world, are said to have fought the "good fight", so we we seem to know what it is. There can be no "one rule for me and another for you" if we want to live and let live.

Yes, the Law of Karma is a guidance - also, change what we can for the better and accept those we can't, gives us peace of mind as co-creators - siva

Nicely worded and put together siva.

"While we build enormous edifices our foundation, base, should be strong enough to withstand the weight of our endeavors"

"Only an inclusive journey – the oneness of creation embellished with the uniqueness in each of us – can carry the day."

I especially liked these lines.

I often wonder what has kept nature going for us in some way, still working, it's truly benevolent it seems, trying always to help and support us, underlying its sometimes fury in some unfathomable way, I guess.

As you say often enough, we will never have all of the answers, but they are all there for us somewhere hidden away anyway.

Thank you Spirited for your encouragement as always for my efforts.

I think the answers are here provided we collate all our knowledge and get to their essence. Like you, I try to understand all the teachings, experiences, thus far to get to the core - not stick to one belief to the exclusion of all others. Then we are missing the plot and are like a frog in the well.

The vastness of space and much is there for us to explore.

I feel defeated when I see few take a course leading humanity to self-destruct. Such a path will negate our brief and will prove a challenge to the creative process.

I believe we are foot soldiers to band together so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Time to steer our ship to the right path than capitulate without a fight! siva

God never created this world and man to create artificial barriers- be it countries, castes, religions or regions. But most of us seem to be servants of such divisions. Quite thought provoking.

Yes Ptrikha,

He created us equal and provided everyone to have enough and more, but we started the "it is mine" syndrome and hoard whatever we can much beyond our needs.

Thanks Kingwell for hitting the nail on its head.

Nature spreads its munificence across the world for everyone to live comfortably. Outside forces only manage to set the cat among the pigeons when they interfere in cultures alien to their own. The fire is now burning in the Middle East and I am not talking of oil wells!

Our progress in technology is like giving state of the art toys to toddlers that are not meant for them; I have seen them engrossed in video games like their parents too with their own pursuits! siva
