We all at sometime want to go down to the sea in ships. This piece is dedicated to three sailors who served during World War 11.

An English lad

What force drove him to captain the sea
This English lad born so free
Adventure idealistic was not for he
He knew the dangers of the sea
What demon made him chart a course
Which in so many mothers find remorse

Not fair countries made a call
Nor sad families
He had no sores from that I recall

The Ship

Suddenly one day a ship glided into his sight
As it headed to bay
Strong and sturdy like a stallion it rode over the foam
Finding its proud way home

Three tall masts pointed to the sky
Sails folded tight just waiting to fly
He was in love
First sight did it all
A ship now at anchor
Started a court into which he would fall

No Marriage Stronger

No marriage stronger was formed
Together they rode out every storm
Until time its toll did take
On this pour soul

Wrapped in his hammock by loving hands tied
Slipped off a plank into the sea
Just for a second he lingered at her keel
Like a parting lover
Just one more feel
Before sinking away from a love so real

My good friend Bob who through his life playing pantomime and acting in England, making wigs for all the stage people of that era and so many other careers has proved a wonderful and kind friend for the past 5 years.

Ah, your exquisite poem takes me back to my tenth grade English class: ..."I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky
And all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by..."

Deep sighs in me! I see the sea and sailors biding goodbye...
Leaving home for many days and weeks and months, may be years.....

Just wonderful. I went to the Homer Winslow exhibit at the Phila Art Museum - his famous painting The Lifeline was spectacular.
