I have been in Westhorpe this week, it's less than a month before my new book is published, so making myself known is very important. Read on to find out more.

Last Saturday morning, Keith and I got up at 5am, loaded our car up, including our family of one golden retriever, and two small cats, and drove to Suffolk. The reason for such an early start was because I had to be at Sudbury by 8.30am, for the craft fair in St Peter's Church.

As a travelling author, I find life exciting, and am prepared for disappointment at times, it was Bank Holiday Saturday, if I could make some sales it would make the early start worth it, but if not, never mind, let's look ahead at future possibilities.

Sudbury is one of my favourite venues. St Peter's Church is such a beautiful building set right next to an open air market, and the town itself buzzes with inhabitants and visitors. It's not far from the border of Essex, so it gets visitors from both counties. It was a warm and sunny day, so people would be out and about.

My Day

Because I have been a regular there for over a year now, I am known to other stall holders. They are always welcoming, and I have struck up lots of friendships along the way. I tend to go roughly every three months, that seems to work for me, and it's nice to know you have been missed when people enquire where you have been.

As an author, I know it's unusual to go out and sell your own books, but when no-one really knows you, it's unrealistic to think that your books will leap off the shelves at Amazon. For me getting out there, and meeting the people really helps my sales, although I still have a long way to go.

Saturday was a very busy day for me. As well as selling lots of books, I also met some very interesting people. They had interesting stories to tell me, and as always, I am happy to answer any questions they might ask me about my work and my life. I came away at the end of the day feeling very pleased at how it had gone.

Then came Finn Valley

On bank holiday Monday I was at Finn Valley Golf Club, which is near Ipswich. When we arrived I saw someone I knew selling home made cards under a gazebo in the grounds. If I have a choice, I would always prefer to be inside, not only is there a risk of rain, but it's easy to get sunburnt, and the wind plays havoc with my supatickets, because I don't have the protection of a gazebo.

Before the fair had even started a very nice man from Yorkshire, who was visiting family in Ipswich came up for a chat. He then decided he wanted a signed copy of EVIL WOMAN. He spent the rest of the time reading it, and kept telling everyone how much he was enjoying it.

That was great for me, he would make a great PA, word of mouth always helps to sell books, so I had yet another successful day. His presence there and enthusiasm encouraged people who weren't sure, to buy a book, and it's always satisfying to hear that a reader is enjoying your book, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

We return home on Sunday, and then I will be keeping busy, and counting down to the publication of EVIL WOMAN...takes Revenge. Life is very exciting for me right now. To anyone out there who strives to be known, keep working hard, it isn't easy, and I still have a long path to tread, but anything worth having is always hard to get, maybe between us we might make it one day.

You must really love writing Carol

You are over 600 articles here now, and you still have time to write your books too!

Perhaps the two endeavours are connected in some ways though. One helps the other.

Hi, Nice meeting an author like you Carol. I am inspired by you and by your writing!
You wrote, "... EVIL WOMAN. He spent the rest of the time reading it, and kept telling everyone how much he was enjoying it." Well now isn't that what you wanted to hear; yes! ;) Good for you! Congrats all the way.
