Celebrating a Year

A milestone date has arrived...it has been one year since I joined Wikinut.

One Year Ago...

The world of a freelance writer has changed over the past several years with the plethora of online sites that accept submissions from most anyone who perceives themselves to be a writer.

And finding the online sites that is willing to pay their contributors is even harder. Many of them offer a mere token that feels more like an insult than an actual payment.

But to find an online site where a writer can contribute on a consistent basis for more than a few months is getting harder each day with all of the sites going down.

Today – July 5 – makes one year since I have joined Wikinut. Admittedly when I first saw the name, I was a little skeptical since the name is similar to Wikipedia; which is somewhat less than reliable in its information. But I signed up and the the next day made my first post...that was nearly 700 articles ago.

While I try and set goals to aim for each month, I knew that things would start slow as readership built up; but things have gone better than I had hoped. I figured that in the first year I would be lucky to reach 250,000 page views...I have 282,154 page views!

Racking up tons of page views is great for getting exposure to build up a following, I just wish the money would come in as well. After writing for over 25 years, I am long past the time of “writing for exposure” and “building up a portfolio”. My list of articles in the past 25 years has topped 6,000 and is approaching the 7,000 mark.

There are days when it is a struggle for me to “get motivated” and sit down to work on an article because I sometimes get the feeling that I am wasting my time, but I keep plugging away...and hoping.

Today is an anniversary of sorts and a bit of a milestone for me...

Happy Anniversary Sherrill,
You should be proud of the number of articles you have written over the years. I have been doing this for almost ten years and I cannot believe how much I have written over the years. Making real money writing online is something I have long giving up on. I do it to share, what money get is just a nice surprise. That is why I have started doing other things as well.

Congratulation from one who is over four years here!

On line writing for me is mostly a passion as the rewards in terms of money is negligible. Spending few hours hours everyday at Wikinut has not been a waste for me as I get fulfillment in sharing my thoughts with many across the world and also to read the rich variety of their efforts, also chipping in with my comments too - siva

I write an average of two articles a day. I also post on social media and when I write about a band or artist I send a link to them or their reps; sometimes I will post a link on their Facebook page. And well, occasionally I get lucky and hit some big numbers.
