To remain in the game of meaningful life does not come easy. Embracing challenges, not avoiding them, is the way to find balance and purpose in our lives.

Ways of the world

We are just human entrapped as we are in the trappings of life! We become circumspect after coming to terms with the ways of life; once bitten twice shy defines our steps. Some not only ride roughshod over others for a quick march ahead, but society is quick to label others as naïve and even failures for playing fair!

Our yearnings

While we want to be left alone and find own space, society can be unrelenting. How to protect our turf, independence and at the same time live within the embrace of society is a challenge for most. A fine balance that tends to tip to one side often keeps us on tenterhooks. We have to be alert to find right balance for peace of mind.

Experience makes us realize our strengths and weaknesses. Then we can adapt within the confines of our boundaries, comfort levels. We can go thus far and no more. We can stretch the boundaries but within our limits. We make sacrifices even as we achieve. We give up some to go after others; a trade-off that escapes us sometimes to our chagrin!

Adapt or perish

Life is a continuous path to the unknown. We look for familiarity and at the same time yearn for change and challenge. It is en endless compromise. We do not know what is beyond the corner. What tomorrow brings will always remain a mystery despite whatever we achieve scientifically. In fact, the uncertainty is becoming greater, adapt or perish is the clarion call; no holds barred competition. If America is not up to it, China is ready to take up the mantle! Nothing succeeds like success and others will in no time dance to communist tunes! But hopefully not donning Mao suits waiving little red books! Excesses of capitalism points to that direction though! Times do change! We need to change with the times unless one can influence them. The dams have burst; so let us make a run for our lives first!

Attitudes do matter

Life can be made benign if we adapt with a positive take. I have learned over the years that lots of disappointment arise because we expect others to change; a bad bet in the end! Why should they, if we don’t? Everyone believes they are right despite clear signals to the contrary; most in self-denial mode.

The fact is we have to move with the times to find peace of mind and be part of society. But one can take the vital step through change in attitude and approach. Life brings lots of challenges most of them man-made; that does not mean women are excluded, to put it rather politely! When we know the reason d’être for our existence is to overcome daily challenges, then it is a smooth ride. Take them as par for the course! Even look forward and miss them when they are not around!

Embrace challenges

Earlier I thought oh! Not again, when problems came out of the blue and landed on my lap. Now, I welcome them with - who else can solve them? It is a privilege that they come looking out for me! Solving them is better than avoiding them! Life is an endless story of few creating the problems for others to live with and find solutions.

Rather than be in self-denial, I have taken another step of actively looking out for issues where I can lend a helping hand! Even in the dangerous zone of office politics! Whew! When my working days are numbered, I know it does not matter much – a statesmanlike role if you will! Everyday is blessed and anyone can become an intractable problem any day; helpless despite the best of will! Plunge headlong to look for issues with right attitude. Prevention is better than cure but keeping in mind - if it is not broke, don’t fix it! Life is what we perceive it to be; we should find ways to enjoy than wallow in misery! We need to squeeze blood out of stone if it comes to that. We will then know who our real leaders are; not those who lead us now with endless speeches leading us to nowhere!

I love when you stated that you welcome problems, what a great way of looking at life, love it. I too would love the day that people would do their homework on our (so called) leaders instead of just what comes out of their pie holes, heck, even I can give a good speech. Congrats on the star page, it is well deserved. Have a blessed day. As always, thank you for sharing.:)

A change in approach gets the adrenalin flowing though some issues out of the blue make me unnerved initially. A day without a challenge is soon forgotten. Overcoming challenges define and embolden us. Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Denise. Much appreciated - siva

Brilliantly put Siva. Yes we must accept and confront challenges as they come. Running away from them is not going to solve anything. "A stitch in time saves nine", the saying goes and if we allow problems to hang around and snowball, things can only get worse!

You have such a great attitude towards life, Siva! I agree with you about changing with the times and stepping out of our comfort zones! I don't believe that any governmental system will work unless greed is taken out of it. If only we could all see things the way you do, and, truly care about our fellow mankind.
