The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

After coming back from Andrew's graduation, Mark and I had a fine summer. However, we were missing the kids terribly. I was feeling the grief of the empty nest, and Mark was getting more and more tired of Maine. His job was unstable, and we never knew when he would be laid off again. He kept an eye out for some work in the south, searching the web constantly, looking at temporary positions in different states. These jobs paid well, but it was just short term. We were not sure what we wanted to do, and kept praying. Fall came and went, then winter. We found ourselves still in Maine, cold and freezing.
Then, at Christmas time, Andrew came home for the holidays, and we went to visit my mom in Rhode Island. We had such fun visiting everyone. The morning we were going to leave, I was helping mom with the morning chores. In the middle of making her bed, she suddenly fell over and screamed my name! I quickly cried for Mark. We helped her to a chair in the living room. She was having a hard time walking. Her speech was slurred, and we knew something bad had happened to her. She did not want us to call 911. Her mind was still sharp as a tack.
I contacted my sister, who is a Registered Nurse, and told her how mom was, and could she please come over right away? She and her husband came over immediately, and when they assessed the situation, she told me mom was suffering from a stroke, and we needed to get her to the hospital. We called an ambulance, and they came and took her. God's mercy manifested itself again. I can't imagine how it would have turned out if we had not stayed to help. That was just the beginning of my mom's illness. Life for her was going to be different. We would all need much strength for whatever lay ahead.
