Children Have Their Own Way of Worship

Children have unique ways of praising the Lord. Read what this contributor learned by observing their act of worship at church.

Movement

Have you ever noticed how a child's body seems to naturally move when they hear music? It's as if there is a programmed button that goes on that gets them going.

Beat It!

At the church that I attend there is a variety of music that is played and sung during the worship time of our service. On one particular Sunday there was a scene that caught my attention. Across the aisle sat a family and their two young children. I had never seen them before and assumed they were first-time visitors.

As the drummer and guitarist were beating and strumming out the musical introductions, these two youngsters were moving their feet to the music. They were about 3 and 4 years of age. It wasn't as if they were being loud or unruly. They were very focused on their worship.

Holding My Laughter

I almost lost myself in laughter when my husband jabbed me in the ribs. The girl was standing by the pew quietly moving her body. But it was her brother who was in the center of the aisle dancing to the Lord. He seemed to be oblivious to the audience around him. When the song concluded he quietly went to sit on his father's lap while his little sister sat between the parents.

Jesus and His Love for Children

It was obvious that they were very familiar with church worship. I couldn't help but think of the song, Jesus Loves Me This I Know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong. It made me reflect on how much God loves the little children and are delighted by their acts of praise towards Him.

Adults Lighten Up!

I learned a lot from that scene that played out before me and others. Adults need to lighten up and not be inhibited in their worship of the Lord. When I think of all He's done for me how can I not praise Him wholeheartedly?

What a wonderful story. I've seen many kids worship in their own special ways.. I've held in the giggles on many occasions. You did a great job shedding light on this. ;)

Enjoyed this article. I think we can learn a lot about worship from children. And I think they can start learning about God at very early ages. Even before they can walk. There's a reason Jesus told us to come to Him like children. Thank you for this delightful article.
