Nothing is wasted in the creative process. We all have a role to play and come with an inner knowing. The immense choices and challenges test our resolve and mettle right till we leave this blessed place. If where we find ourselves was predetermined, where we go should also be likewise based on how we utilized the choices and faced challenges here.

Wheat from Chaff

The real meaning for our lives remains a mystery. That could be the reason our beliefs vary and philosophers and thinkers have tried to unravel it without much success. The more we peal the layers the more are of them yet to unravel. Everything has a purpose in creation and it is for us to take up the challenge and crack our brains to move forward and, sometimes, retrace our steps too realizing the pitfalls of our actions. We have come far in our history learning many a lesson, but true wisdom has eluded us though we have had moments of them almost in the nick of time; otherwise we would have been history! We take it for granted that despite our continuous posturing one party will blink in the end! The choices are innumerable and the challenges too; don’t we have information overload now to get to the gist of life to forge ahead as one, to separate the wheat from the chaff as it were?

Different Perspectives

Each generation has to experience the basics of what life is about – what works and those that end up in disaster. Earlier times the young were told to obey, to rely on the wisdom of elders, but now they are more attuned to the ways of the world and given more leeway. It is more of obey or get lost during my childhood years and we were more careful to fall in line. Now creativity is encouraged by parents and the children have more choices and also challenges due to taking responsibility for the choices made by them. The world is our oyster as distances have shrunk in terms of time taken traversing them. What used to take months decades ago is now hours! The national boundaries are also written on water despite politicians making use of them to suit their convenience. Ordinary Americans, Chinese, Russians and others feel as one but needless provocations due to politics that are fed by greed and selfish motives divide us into compartments. Of course, everyone is released from these man-made restrictions in the end! It is time indeed to make our follies history; why prolong the agony?

Getting to the Core of Life

The real meaning to our lives could well be beyond us. We worry about where we go hereafter but where were we before and we could well end up at the same place – nothingness! Or our deeds could propel us through sheer momentum to another plane. As nothing is wasted in creation we could find our own deserved domain. But to remain in the present form is not feasible; but what for indeed. We come with the basics to survive here and we should also be blessed to exist in another plane with the needed wherewithal and that we should leave to our Creator! He knows what to do but His responsibility is so much higher than for us as He is the only one, but could well be reporting to another – layers within endless layers and it is survival of the fittest that matter!

Miles to go before We Sleep

We go through not only physical but mental transformation too as our perspective changes with time and experience. We are not the same person every ten years. Our body gives hints too, not forgetting the body blows in life that none can escape. We pick up the pieces, ponder and have to move on after overcoming initial shock effects realizing the truth that no one owes us a living! Though we may even curse our position in life the choices we have and the challenges we face make our lives worth the while. Even if we choose a sedentary life, time spares none. We travel miles in seconds as the universe takes us along in a journey far away from where we were born!

We board at one place and disembark at another, millions of miles away. What do we have to show for it? We do lap up what is served on us and also value-add in our own way. We do come with individual talents and with also different thumbprints and that re-enforces the possibility that we were created for a purpose that could reveal itself later. Even zebras have different patterns in their stripes which we cannot discern easily with our perception! It all points out to one possibility that existence is permanent for each one of us. It is up to us to make wise choices and also take up worthwhile challenges to end up proving we did our part or, at least, tried our best. We also did shine our light for others to take the right path and such acts should take care of us and prove useful to the whole creative process. Each can do but little, but if only each does that little to add value!

Thanks ~ Siva ~ for an exceptionally well written post on choices and consequences. Seems many are unaware that choices bring with them certain consequences. I heartily believe that It all points to THE FACT that existence is permanent for each one of us. It is up to us to make THE CHOICE to receive our Creator's Son that He allowed to die on an old rugged Cross so that whoever would receive Him ~ would not perish ~ but have everlasting life.

Thank you Helen for your support as always, appreciated. We are not able to manage basic justice to all as some do get away with murder - at least, keep taking without conscience while others keep giving! So there should be some way out for final justice to even out our lives. All beliefs point to some final justice in the end though atheists also get comfort by doing what is right to help others in need - siva

Yes ~ Siva ~ If you will indulge me ~ I would like to make an additional comment. First I agree with the basic premise of your response. However, I do not believe that ultimately people are getting away with murder. Payday is coming for them ~ not that it is my desire for them to suffer hard times or be in prison for life. I would rather pray for their salvation and see our Creator work in their hearts and help them TO CHANGE. Thanks again for your great share. Blessings to you.

Thanks again Helen for sharing your belief. I am sure that is the way the 99% feel and behave but the 1%, who dictate terms, rock the boat. I read in the papers one European bank has pleaded guilty to helping thousands of US clients evade paying taxes to the US government and agreed to pay a fine of USD 2.6 billion. Another European bank could pay up to $5 billion for a similar offence. Fair enough, but these banks get away scotfree and even thumb their noses at other countries. America has the clout to bring these behemoths to their knees. My point is, those in charge of such deeds believe they can escape punishment not only here. Why only a fine? Yes, we can forgive them but that emboldens them to further such acts. Without ultimate justice meted out some do get away with inflicting great injustice to the society at large, especially those that already suffer the maximum for no fault of theirs - siva

Dear Siva, Life is a journey, not a destination. So it’s fair to say life has not one, but a lot of different meanings and purposes. For example, different emotions give us different perspectives on life. Different ways of thinking make life different for each and every one of us. While this is so, only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile. A life without purpose is a life without meaning. We can find true happiness only by helping others.

Thanks dear Subra for your wise take on life. A life lived for others brings the ultimate bliss but not in material terms. The media leads us the wrong path highlighting as parameters of success the wrong yardsticks and many fall for them. Unbridled greed brings misery to all even to those not in this nefarious game of duping others leading to a life of debauchery - siva

My dear friend Siva ...
Firstly , let me say Good morning to you , and to ask if all is well with you and yours today ?
Secondly , let me say of myself ... I do not worry about where I will go hereafter , as I know , without a shadow of doubt where I shall spend Eternity ..
My dear Saviour has gone to prepare a home for me , and at the right time , He will come back and take me to be with Him in Heaven ..
Oh , I do so long for the assurance that you will be there also ..
John 3 vs 16 - 17 may help you understand why I believe as I do dear sir ...
God bless you with His love and peace today

Thanks dear Stella for your uplifting comments. So happy for you. Thanks for the concern too and I am sure I should find my way even clutching at straws! Those who live for others should be rewarded and, likewise, those who exploit others should at least get a rap on the knuckles - siva

Siva, you always write such wise and thought-provoking articles. This reminds me of a quote from Mother Teresa. "We cannot all do great things but we can do little things with great love."
And as you pointed out, these little things can really add up and add some love and support to our world today.

Thank you Connie. I feel we can live in this world with lots more of love as suggested by the quote from Mother Teresa. Love begets love and it has no language or border. There is no hate in nature; only a fight to survive among other species and they never wantonly destroy. Let us have a higher realization about our ability to do much better for our own sake and for the future of our universe. I believe an unknown hand is guiding the whole process and has still high hopes on us to fulfill our given ability - siva

Good work Mr Siva, indeed we live sometimes in another plane and fail to realize the momentum with which we travel. Though cause and effect is still used to explain our "karma" in this world.

Thank you Snerfu. We find ourselves in different set-ups all the time right from the day we are born. There should be some "method to this madness", so the better option is to do the best that we can to help others in distress - siva

A thought provoking, and in some ways a frightening article, on what we are and what is the purpose of our being here. Yet if all of us think even sometimes in these terms, we all can shed some of our external postures, egos and greed and make earth a better place to live.

Thank you Ptrikha for thinking further. I maintain the 99% are forced to foot bill for the tyranny of 1%. One big European bank has agreed to pay $2.6 billion to US for being hand in glove with American tax dodgers and another may have to settle for $ 5 billion for similar offence. Few others have also done similarly with US tax authorities in recent years. They do not bother as they can make more from others from poorer countries. My pleading is - why not extend the probe to clients from all nationalities? Is there any justice within this system where it is openly selectively applied? Is it not a stretch to think justice will be done in the end without our lifting a little finger ourselves? America should probe further - how they can afford to pay these billions, who and how they are footing the bill? Such actions will make our lives worthwhile, not like now taking advantage of the innocents. We are here like a visitor to see, partake and enjoy with others, not corner the resources and then give it the undeserving - siva

Another excellent post Siva. Of course the fact is that not one of us knows what happens at death. Some have been indoctrination to such an extent in one religious belief or another that they have convinced themselves that they know. In my opinion, it makes no difference as when we are finished here we simply transition to another state. We are here to live this life to the best of our ability, helping make life here a little better for all that we meet. It is what we can do now that matters. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Blessings.

Very wise take Kingwell, I agree with you. We should be at peace when we live here and also when we depart with a feeling of having lived our life to benefit the creative process. We come with an inner knowing and let our lives be honorable. I have seen the good and bad everywhere and even among those who profess none - siva

"nothing is wasted, and the real meaning remains a mystery"

Is there a waste then in us not knowing the mystery?

Or does the mystery also serve its purpose?

much food for thought here, thanks siva

Thanks Spirited for your deep thinking! We are from nature and everything is recycled lock, stock and barrel. The lions eat the zebras and wildebeests, and the latter feast on the grass that sprouts from the ground where the remains of lions lay! So we feed on each other and the rich more so from the poor as they are never satiated! Regarding soul, all living creatures should have, not only us, though we associate it generally only with us. The mystery can be solved incontrovertibly only if someone comes back to tell the tale. No one does and that means it will remain a mystery (like where we were before coming here) leaving us in misery! siva

An old friend once said that life must be paced.

If you go too fast, you are likely to make hasty decisions. When you move too slow, your enthusiasm gets muffled.

There's a right pace to do everything

When you move at that right pace, your odds of making right choices increase greatly.

Balance well placed, Sivaramakrishnan ,is everything. ;p)

Thanks Patricia - call me Siva. We should enjoy our ride. I am in the finance field and I see at first hand how greed envelopes most. When we are in 100 million club one gets a feeling that the billionaires are sneering at us and there is no end then! One should pause, ponder and savor life with our loved ones. If we teach our children to help the underprivileged in society and take it as the hallmark of success then we will see what our actions can do. Now our leaders play on our emotions and tempt fate with their belligerent words always looking at blowing up issues that do not affect the 99% at all. If only we thought of the consequences of our words and actions - siva
