Clear the Decks to Pursue Shared Goals in Right Earnest

It is time to redefine our goals to pursue the essentials that we all can resonate with. Now we are putting out one fire after other even creating new ones in the process. It should be a shared journey than one outsmarting another to increase the sphere of influence. Country borders and religion should not define us.

Brinkmanship

We have accumulated burdensome baggage to an extent our goals have become hazy. It is in a way like losing ourselves in rituals than concentrating on the essence of our faiths. When we take the right path leading to coexistence and peace the day-to-day issues that bedevil us will lose its potency. The wheels within wheels will give away to make us focus on what really matters for a shared journey. Yes, few revel in confusion and anarchy but they are always a minority. We know of instances when the ego of even one leader stalled the peace process as he was afraid of peace! Some take us beyond the point of no return – it is time to isolate them; it looks like we still have leaders who are blissfully unaware of their brief! They flex their muscles to stay in the limelight than quietly lead us to a better world. They make issues fester pitting one against another and we all lose our plot in the end – it ends up as a self-defeating exercise spanning generations after generations. We find ourselves on the brink of wars always.

Hypocrisy

It looks like a bigger issue can only solve smaller ones; at least make them remain in the background! There is an endless queue of issues threatening to get out of hand! They even seem to be seamlessly integrated! Then facts are misrepresented to throw a spanner in our works in our effort to live in peace. We know what will give us a reprieve – examples are League of Nations after the First World War and the United Nations after the Second. But memories prove short! Now the powerful thumb their noses at such institutions to act alone as they please. They have no compunction to look far and wide for weapons of mass destruction while having a stockpile of nuclear warheads to destroy our world many times over! The oft-repeated "He who is without sin can cast the first stone" hardly resonates when ego, pride and greed overcome common sense proving that it has been a casualty right through our history!

Clear the Decks

Now America has to content with a rising China. Of course the latter has a soft belly in terms of grappling with increasing demands for democracy. But they have proved themselves with amassing the most foreign exchange reserves of over $ 3. 5 trillion which gives them the power to buy over the crown jewels of other countries! After all, when the push comes to shove money speaks louder words to carry the day! The following issues capture attention of our leaders and even take a toll on them in the sense they have little time to tackle pressing matters of the majority. It is time to face them square-on.

Joint Action: It is time America stopped unilateral actions even if they are led by altruistic motives. It not only leads to free for all and legitimizes and even encourages others to imitate them. Russian intervention in Syria is to protect their interests. Is it so difficult to convince others through United Nations? Make all issues transparent.

Disarmament: We have to defang to sow the seeds of peace and coexistence. Do we need another World War to heed the writing on the wall? Or do we need a terrorist group to detonate a big one causing millions to perish? Their fingers are itching to get hold of one!

Curb Greed: International armament supplies bring big rewards to those in the trade. Powerful countries are competing and more are trying to force their way to get their fingers in this lucrative business. There are many stealthy ways these are done and finally the end products land in “wrong hands”! We are sowing seeds for our destruction and time a body like the United Nations is empowered to curb all dealings and start the process of disarmament in stages with time bound schedule set. That will mark real progress towards peace and coexistence. And that is abiding by the majority will – democracy in action!

United Effort: Now we have many instances of joint efforts to mitigate poverty, improve health across borders. But the shadow of suspicion casts its negativity over these efforts. Alleviating poverty, hunger and ignorance will set us on a sure path towards progress and unity. We should divert the resources from those that are now spent on weapons towards these common issues.

Maintain Status Quo: It is wise to maintain the status quo and any change has to be backed by changed circumstances and upheld by the United Nations based on incontrovertible facts. Enhancing quality of life of humanity and fellow travelers should unite us than being obsessed with country borders and fanatical adherence to different faiths.

No Time to Lose

The needed will and urgency are lacking in taking steps that will take us to the right path. Despite what our leaders talk they are afraid to tread a path that leads to world peace. It is much safer than arms proliferation, dividing countries to get their backing behind powerful countries, luring them with money and weapons. Many countries are trapped into buying armaments even when majority people lack basic needs. Now it is more like putting out the fires but setting alight new ones at the same time – sort of new wounds created even in our attempts to heal the old! Our past is weighing us down to such an extent we cannot even think clearly about our future with countries having own ax to grind, beholden as our leaders are to power centers that have the last say. The changes are unlikely to happen unless our leaders rise above the din and hopefully will happen before we burn more than our fingers. If not we will be left with much more than clearing the decks due to our follies that can set us back to The Stone Age!

Thanks Madan, It is high time those who matter listened.

"Deadliest violence Paris has seen since World War II" is how it is described about what happened in a concert hall in Paris yesterday.Unless the good across all religions joins together - and they form the vast majority - few terrorists will hold them to hostage.

If these incidents do not goad us into action, I know not what else is needed - siva

Great insights to what is going on in the world. Leaders can hear only the din or they just choose to do so ignoring the rest. As you say there is no time to lose, the stone age is closer that we realize!

The French President has declared a state of emergency across France, but that should apply to the whole world. It is more like biting the hand that feeds in the end.

If every believer thinks he is right and kills those who do not toe his line, then we are toast sooner than later with intolerance rising higher by the day.

Our leaders should do what is right by the vast majority and that is democracy in action. We should start with arms freeze right now and then move to disarmament - siva

If only your wonderful suggestions could be implemented in our lifetime dear Siva ...but alas, methinks there is still much emnity to come before anyone learns that death and destruction are not the solution to the world's needs .
We have to press on and do our best in our small corner though my friend , so as not to add to the problem .
Many blessings to you always

As I was posting this article dear Stella, mayhem was unfolding/unleashed in Paris but the majority still remains divided despite some statements/platitudes.

So much of viciousness generated, but why? We talk but a minority uses whatever weapons they get hold of to terrorize us. Every day we fail to mobilize is a dark day in our history. And we have few who feel there is "good terrorism" if it happens to "others" they don't like thus silently playing into the hands of the wicked..

Terrorism does not have a religion and the majority within that faith should have the guts to "disown" them. Now it becomes a neck-to-neck race with the wretched and I think of the chariot race I saw bewitched in the movie Ben-Hur when I was young.

Human life is losing its value, and is it meant that way to lead to our ultimate demise? According to me our Creator says - I will keep playing the music and t is finally your call!

We may not be that indispensable at all and others may have the last laugh! siva

America needs to get involved and exterminate this evil, but alas, we have a president who has weakened our country, our military and demonstrated to the world that we are no longer a superpower. The fact that idiot, moron U.S. voters elected a Muslim after 9/11 to the highest office of the land shows what we have sunk to. Although this will change with the next election and liberals have sealed their fate regarding ever having a Muslim or socialist as president again, it will not bring back the dead from their graves in Paris and other areas of the world.

Thanks Jessica for your take though I feel America should stop acting as the all-knowing.omniscient, omnipotent, super power - it is not good for them or the world. Why then the United Nations?

I highlight a recent news headline that is pertinent - "former Prime Minister Tony Blair tells CNN's Fareed Zakaria he's sorry for mistakes in intelligence, planning and regime removal."

There are wheels within wheels with religion playing a role though arms dealers have a crucial say in the way international politics is played out. I cannot understand why the 99% of the world cannot have a voice to root out the evil.

The crux of the matter according to me is a void was created in Iraq and Libya and the devils in waiting filled it! It has become a real mess. If America can do what it wants, why not Russia, China then?

I know not who will win in the end but the 99% will pay the ultimate price - siva

I really agree with this statement Siva. 99% of the world is in total disbelief that this could have happened in the first place. Now time is of the essence for the world to unite and crush these demons.

Thanks Sherry - we should stop more and more potent weapons falling into the hands of the 1% who terrorize the 99% within their own beliefs too into submission. Some agree to toe their line and some join them when promised heaven if they join them with all the enticements waiting for them like 72 virgins etc!

It is tragic if it is business as usual as arms are still flowing across porous borders - we have to nip them in the bid and that is what the 99% should press on.

Mere rhetoric will only add fuel to the fire - siva

What a powerful article Siva. I agree with the recent comment made by former Prime Minister
Tony Blair. Although Iraq's leader was a tyrant and dictator, he kept the radical tribes in check. Unfortunately they needed a tough ruler to keep the peace. When he was executed it unleashed a firestorm of terror around the world. The terrorist groups are gaining in numbers and seem to have the intelligence to assemble and orchestrate these horrific acts under the radar of the security intellengence. I don't know what these groups want. What do they want from us? Why are they so evil? Where is their compassion? The world will never be the same again and I don't know what we can do to stop the senseless killings. Thanks for writing this Siva. You have a way with words that deliver a punch. Thank you my friend.

Thanks Petra for your kind words and motivation; so happy to see you again too.

France has been very accommodating of people from different cultures and it is ironical that these dastardly actions have been attributed to beliefs; excess of them turn on its head to hate others of different ilk.

To criticize is easy but to remain in the hot seat is entirely a different matter as the reality starts to bite. We need leaders who stick with the fundamentals than treat only the symptoms while the disease remains deep routed, more like a multi-headed hydra.

I quote from my above article "Disarmament: We have to defang to sow the seeds of peace and coexistence. Do we need another World War to heed the writing on the wall? Or do we need a terrorist group to detonate a big one causing millions to perish? Their fingers are itching to get hold of one!" Ironically the attacks happened just after I posted this article!

A classic duality of our existence has been highlighted by love and hate; one touching the very core of our being, existence and other making the vast majority wonder - why such hatred?

I feel we need a change in consciousness, awareness away from the present ways of looking at our issues and pursuit of life itself.

Gandhi said an eye for eye will make the whole world blind. We need real leaders to lead us, not mere politicians - siva

Once again you have hit the nail on the head Siva. If only the world would listen! What happened in Paris is indeed terrible but we have to remember that we in the west are largely responsible for the rise of terror groups. I is time we learn to live together in peace. Blessings.

Thanks Kingwell for your enduring support.

Outside intervention has set the cat among the pigeons in a culture that is quite different.

We are sadly sowing the same seeds but expect a different harvest every time! The solution is simple if we all get together and willing to bury the hatchet!

There are so much in common than be condemned to live in animosity looking for trouble all the time. Finally it boils down to our attitude and intention - siva

"It should be a shared journey"

What can we do with those people who want it all for themselves though, and do not want to share?

We can't force people to change, just try to educate them, as you are doing here siva.

Keep up the good work!!

Thanks Spirited. We refuse to give up our ways that have led to our downfall time and again.

Education is crucial to give hope, remain in the loop, and unite people as knowledge opens up our minds towards a shared journey.

Now it is more of a forced change of even culture and lifestyles that do not resonate at the ground level. It has become sort of solution ending up worse than the problems they addressed.

I am referring to the multi-headed hydra created in the Middle East spewing out not only noxious fumes! It has the latest weapons too!

The intentions behind actions are also less than honorable as they are led more by greed - siva

I may not have the answers you are seeking for a peaceful conclusion in the world as we know it at this present times dear Siva ....but I do know of a Higher Power who has all the answers in His Book , the Bible ....wherein He clearly tells us that there will be wars and rumours of wars in the latter days , and mankind will turn to anarchy and hatred before the Great and terrible Day of the Lord .
Our only hope is to turn to the Prince of Peace and trust that He will see us through whatever lies ahead .
There is a preacher called John Hagee from the US who has spoken sermons of the Four Horses of the Apocalypse , that can be found on Utube, that could answer some of the situations we are facing today.
God bless you my dear friend with peace

Thanks again dear Stella for your kind words and support as always; also for the heads up on the video. I will check this out.

I wanted to air my views that the path we have taken will only bring us grief - now the terrorists have AK 47, and soon whatnot to destroy and kill more and more. But we sow the same seeds and expect different produce!

I read a news item that the children of Bali bombers who were dealt with, some with death penalty, went to fight for ISIS from Indonesia. They wanted to avenge for their fathers' deaths - that is a form of many headed hydra!

The UN should stop arms proliferation forthwith and ensure the safety of the 99%; I feel that is the only way; Indiscriminate bombing will not solve the issue as more innocents will be killed inciting more revenge.

I don't think peace can be forced upon any country but others can help to create a platform, environment to enable the process. The call to unite under religion irrespective of country borders is too tough to resist for some - siva

Dear Siva, Each thought that we create, every word we speak and every action we perform is responsible for the radiation of energy or vibration into the universe; towards other people, to the surroundings or the atmosphere as well as to physical nature. This is a shared value that can enable us to live in peace with everybody else. This is the only way to pursue shared goals enthusiastically.

Thanks dear Subra for sharing your wise thoughts so succinctly.

There are differences many among us but our similarity will make them pale in comparison. The "Us" and "Them" should stop and let us live democratically within a democracy!

By radiating energy positively, without creating negative radiation, we can chart our course as others will also tend to take a similar path by extension - siva
