Darkness Spreads Before Them Like A Curtain

Sometimes life is about just surviving by putting one foot in front of the other. Always we will face a darkness within, behind or around us and the ability to persevere is so common all around us that we never realize the immense power we have within to not just survive, to thrive. To throw apart those curtains and banish our demons so effortlessly, unknowingly, to face another day.. well it's pretty incredible. Like sunflowers may we always follow the light.

Its dark,
So dark.
The roads hide behind shadows,
Trees dance in the wind,
And no one sees them sway.
It’s dark. So dark.
People dream and dream and then awake,
They push aside the darkness like a curtain.

Arms stretched wide,
They breathe the scent of dark roasted coffee
They search the alley across the street
Looking distractedly at the neighbors van.
Seeing man pick up a board
A shingle, a nail, they pound and pound and hours pass,
they make a house into a home.

They push aside the darkness like a curtain
Arms spread wide they warmly
Stretch their muscles and push away the hazy dreams of fretful fears..

Its dark – so dark,

Yet they push aside the darkness like a curtain.
They stretch their leg – raise it – a hesitant toe
Touches the bottom of a white cold tub,
They close their eyes and inhale the steam,
They wash away the stale remains of a vision-licked night.
Arms stretched wide bracing their weight
They bow their heads ,
Sopping wet hair kisses their necks and ears.
protects a single tear,
That briefly rests before it glides,
before it drops,
before it’s gone,
Melting into the standing water fighting to go down the too slow drain.

It’s dark, so dark.
People dream and dream and then awake,
They push aside the darkness like a curtain..

Wipe moisture from the mirror.
Apply a mask to cover blotches and circles
And blemishes that only they know are there.
trace eyes with dark to make them bright.
gloss their lips and cheeks are lifted,
turn their head from side to side,
fluff their hair
They stand in front of their mirror erasing traces
Of lingering daze
A night spent with dreams
Erasing, erasing, erasing a night spent with the darkness
they spread apart like a curtain

They look through the panes of glass
near the door
A black cat
is toying with the mouse it chased through the darkness
for hours and hours.

It’s dark. So dark.
People dream and dream and then awake.
They push aside the darkness like a curtain
They stretch, they rise, they hesitate,
Inhale and then bow,

It braces, it kisses, it rests and glides,
It then drops and melting is gone.
They wipe away the moisture,
Eyes bright, they push and gloss and fluff
And finally they see,
Finally they see what they’ve just erased.

It’s dark, so dark.
People dream and dream and then awake.
They push aside the darkness like a curtain,
They stretch and catch breath,
Floorboards creaking,
Arms wide,
Darkness spreading like a curtain.
