The O Level (Ordinary Level) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education. The O Level qualification is still awarded by Cambridge International Examinations in select locations, instead of or alongside the International General Certificate of Secondary Education qualifications (IGCSE). Diary writing is one of the important parts if O Level curriculum.

What is a Diary Entry?

According to the dictionary diary writing is a written account of daily occurrences, journal; daily calendar etc. It also can be defined as follows:
1. A diary is a written record of personal experiences, thoughts and feelings.
2. It can be considered as a friend with whom you can be yourself and share your intimate thoughts and emotions.
3. You can keep a daily record of the people you meet, the exciting things that you do at home or at school, the memories of a holiday or common place, everyday events.

Steps of Diary Writing

1. You can use a ready diary having dates printed on all pages. You can also use a note book as a diary.
2. If the diary does not have a printed date, write the date (day, month and year) on which you are making the entry, on the top corner of a fresh page.
3. You may address the diary as a friend and write ‘Dear Diary’, or just continue to write your diary entry.
4. Write the diary entry in the first parson (I or we), this is your personal story or account of the event.
5. Write the events in the correct order.
6. Provide important details of the place, time, people or things that were part of the event.
7. Write about your feelings in detail and explain why you feel that way.
8. Ends your diary like as 'Yours,/Eddi'.

Special Caution

1. Always it is not mention the words' limit. If there is no word limit, students should write in between 200 to 300 words for O Level.
2. You can draw or stick pictures to make the entry more interesting.
3. You may use simple or informal language but avoid slang.

A sample of Diary Writing

Dear Diary,
I’m so upset!! I don’t even know where to begin!
.............To start off, I think I completely failed my geometry quiz, which I know I should’ve studied more for...my dad’s not gonna be happy about that. :( Then, we had a pop quiz in history on the reading homework from last night, and I completely forgot most of what I read, which made me even more upset because I actually did the reading! But what really made me mad was the note that Sarah slipped into my locker during passing period. She said she was sad that I’ve been hanging out with Jane more lately and thinks that I don’t want to be her friend anymore. I can’t believe she thinks that, especially after talking with her on the phone for hours and hours last month while she was going through her breakup with Nick! Just because I’ve been hanging out with Jane a little more than usual doesn’t mean I’m not her friend anymore. She completely blew me off at lunch, and when I told Jane, she thought that Sarah was being a “drama queen.”
.............This is just what I need! My parents are getting on my case about doing more extracurricular activities, I have a huge paper due for AP English soon, and I can’t understand a thing in advanced Spanish! The last thing I need is for my best friend to think I hate her and barely text me back anymore.
..............Uggh! I can’t concentrate on anything right now because of it. I hope she gets over it!!!
................................................................................................................... Love,
......................................................................................................................Kate
