Do We Matter?

Being human with reasoning ability, we take it for granted that we can expect better times afterlife, whatever it means and in whichever form. The Creator, however, keeps his cards close to his chest – keep dreaming and hoping is his refrain with hints that it depends on us entirely – He will allow the due creative process to run its course!

Dreams and Reality

How long modern man has been around is left to our interpretation; more so modern women as they seem to change faster, at least in their outward appearance! We find ourselves at the apex of creation and is there a meaning to it – a result of past karma? Is our life perennial as some believe soul is not born and hence imperishable? Then will it seek refuge as per our actions and thoughts finding its way among different species for each lifespan not only in this planet? But then, does it matter when we have no inkling of where we were in earlier lives? Do other species ever think why they are not born as human species so as to lord over others? Be that as they may, we have the ability to think, imagine and dream and we mostly think of reaching a higher level all the time and do not worry about descending to lower levels to be enslaved by humans in our next avatar! We strut about with a feel that we are the chosen ones with access to better things afterlife here. But the Creator keeps His cards close to his chest – let them dream on is His refrain and find the truth when the time comes as He recalls everyone without fail!

Meaning at all levels

We cannot choose our parents and come with individual ability – we can try to improve our lot with a bit of luck thrown in. In fact, a lot depends on who we meet; some give a hand, lift us up, while others leave lifelong scars tough to heal. But still it depends on us how we react as encouragement can make us smug and hurts can redouble our efforts to prove our worth. We cannot jump out of our skin which we should wear comfortably as everything comes with a purpose to test our mettle. Frankly, there is nothing to be ashamed of with our lot when we give our lives the best shot and there is no universal barometer for success – we have to be comfortable within ourselves. The endless wealthy lists can also denote how they have taken advantage of others – especially the poor for whom sharing is a habit. They don’t calculate at every turn; in fact, they are the unsung heroes everywhere making it easy for all, ever ready to lend a hand and an ear.

Nature Nourishes

We have progressed, no doubt, in terms of Science and Technology but has it opened our minds? Looks like we have regressed in that area; hearing the latest news one feels sick in the pit of the stomach. There seems to be endless misery, mostly self-created, the stark unwillingness to live in harmony. Nature does not give up as yet redoubling its efforts despite our monstrosity! Instead of embracing it as the pivot for our existence, we just do not care – take it for granted. Nature is alive, every moment it adapts everywhere and re-balances in its entirety to keep us all going. In fact, our Creator is in nature and what more do we want?

Masters of Destiny

We behave like the scions of a wealthy family with an entitlement mentality. America has borrowed heavily but it has the resources to repay its debts and they are from nature’s bounty. If the world takes stock as one, we have immense resources and untapped renewable energy. The Creator is nonchalant – let me see how you connect the dots! It is up to us to find the way through our ingenuity and willingness to live in harmony, a tussle for our mind and heart to succeed. What a challenge for human race with none to lord over us and also to guide us. We have to look outside and, more important, draw inspiration from within. Are we up to the challenge or end-up blowing everything up due to our folly?

The best is yet to be but with a Warning

The real inspiration has to come from within to have meaning of our lives. However that seems to be tough when we have little time for reflection as we get swept away by the incessant tide of material and scientific progress; everyone from cradle to grave is on a catch-up mode whatever it takes! So are we any different from others who are led by hunger and daily struggles for mere survival? Also mindless killings over issues from time immemorial get us worked up leading us to each other’s throats. But we dream of a better life while letting slip whatever is given to us on a silver platter, proving ungrateful for the munificence of whoever has trusted us with the riches! And they look to be self-renewing like renewable energy that could be the Holy Grail for all out prosperity that can give us a life of leisure. Imagine every home as a power generator with more to spare! So we can just sit around and shake our legs with robots at our beck and call! Then we can jump and up and down like my colleague in mock ecstasy greeted the news when the stingy boss upgraded her car – we have arrived, we have arrived!

It is Our Choice

But all said and done, do we really matter? Of course, we like to believe we have a much higher calling, but even the most ardent will have some doubt like the exalted Mother Teresa herself had at times! Keep doing good work and that for me is earning my living, spreading cheer around without borders, and through Wikinut too, touching humanity as one! Keep away negativity but a tough choice as daily news makes me sick in the pit of the stomach; what for the inhumanity, also to nature and fellow travelers! Can I do more? Not for any monetary reward but to become a true co-creator. That way we all can matter in the whole scheme of things, making our precincts better wherever we happen to be and mostly not of our choosing. When we are part of the humongous creative wheel it gives us the right impetus and emotional involvement. We are blessed to be able to choose right from wrong but that comes to all species too. So in the end all matter as creation is inclusive – it is up to us to earn our keep, the choice is ours entirely!

Thank you Mandy for sharing your thoughts. There is a deep meaning to our existence - though we maybe cogs/spokes in the giant wheel of creation, we have a role to play and even to enhance it - siva

The soul matters to the One who created it and furnished it; the mind will dissipate and the body will rot ... they do not matter ... except that how we think and how we act either nurtures the soul or degrades it.
Still, there is much to consider, if we care to at all.

I agree r. nuñez. Our soul is the work of love and passion of the Creator. He wants us to weather the storms here and be enriched by them. And what do we want more than hearing His words - you did have a rough ride - didn't you, but you did alright - you have proved worthy for the next hurdle!

Our lifespan here may be limited but our thought process to reflect on creation is beyond compare. I hear the refrain - you create the world you want to live in - siva

Siva, excellent work. This is definitely a thought provoking article. I personally believe we are all here for a reason. I also think each one of us is important to our creator. We are here to learn and be compassionate. My belief is that we should help those in need and I do believe we do matter.

Thanks Nancy. When in doubt, never lose our resolve to benefit the creative process is my inner prompt. The choices we have are immeasurable - sometimes we need the reverses to understand our world and journey better. No one is unscathed and the higher one reaches, the harder is the fall.

Thankfully, we can differentiate good deeds from the bad, so up to us to get our direction right - siva

What you said about trying our best but luck being involved was so true. And people in our lives can help or hinder. We make our own choices, but some choices are added or taken away by the people around us.

Agreed, Phyl - others test our resolve with their attitude and approach. Karma, or whatever one calls it, is at play throughout our lives in terms of who we meet and the choices we are given, or even denied. Some are overbearing to take away our choices but we have to redouble our efforts and resolve.

I maybe guilty of finding safe haven and comfort zones and that attitude limited the exercise of the myriad choices I have had. Also being contented limits the initiative - again a choice I have made just to be myself - siva

Hi Siva, I believe you have spoken for all thinkers. When we die shall we life again? That is a question that has haunted humanity since we first became aware of our existence and yet we have no more evidence than our ancestors. Personally, I feel that we do matter and all thing are working out in Divine Order although we may not see it at the moment. Thank you for sharing such an interesting article. Blessings.

Thanks Kingwell for your thoughts and inputs. I do believe ultimate justice will be served for our time here as some live for others while few take advantage of them. I also believe some are able to take a role as guardian angel to chip in when those living give up on some. Those departed do not have a physical body, so we are not aware of them with human senses. Creation has inbuilt mechanism for self-renewal and sustenance and as you aptly put it a Divine Order, so as a thinking species we should have a semblance of justice in the way we go about life - siva

Thank you Madan. We have to reflect on our lives and experiences to do justice to human species. If we get the basics right we can make this world heaven, but it has been one rule for us and another for the rest. We prove to be the most selfish of all and never learn and adapt - siva

If we don't matter, would anything else matter?

Would there be a point in anything that would or could prick us into wanting to live?

You are saying we matter to ourselves when we prick ourselves into mattering. We are responsible because the creator mostly stays in the background.

Actually if the choice was entirely mine I would not care about mattering. It is me being a part of the whole that matters to me, not me being me individually, but that's only me.

Much food for chewing over here siva enough to give most of us indigestion as which it gave me....LOL

Without the willingness to coexist and a passion for compassion to start with, we will forever go around in circles. Some argue we were always like this and so just grin and bear it and take everything on the chin! But our potential will be wasted as our creator will not interfere - why should he anyway unless we prove worthy and yes matter to him too! If we do not matter to ourselves then our lives will degenerate to nothingness despite our huge potential. We have to grow our heart with a spirit of sacrifice and forge ahead with good intentions and that the Creator will prompt us like he does for all others.

The present world seems to lack focus - maybe, it was like that right through but we have weapons to destroy ourselves more by the day; so we have to make a choice whether we want to live - sometimes we do that also in our personal lives clutching at straws even! Thank you Spirited for your thoughts too - siva

Truly from the heart as always from you Siva. I do not have much to add, but do long for a time when nations and people across the nations will pause and do something for the planet, slowing down perhaps a bit and caring for the mother nature.

Thank you Ptrikha for your compassion too. Why should each country stockpile weapons and few even have the cheek to allege others are having them while they have more to destroy the whole planet many times over? Sooner or later we will realize our folly and come to senses. Einstein said - “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” We are proving to be the enemy of mother nature if not creation itself - siva

Sorry for the inadvertent repitition dear Siva. I believe God created us for a reason and that we have taken this human body to give our soul a purpose and a role that we should play. Of course how we play our role is up to us - we can do good or we can do bad!

No issues about repetition as you have gifted me nut points this way! I think our body is meant to take body blows during this life cycle - then once we are done here, we can well be truly exposed - everything is out in the open! Our life here should prepare us to keep our heads high or whatever it is replaced with! Taking a middle path, as Buddha taught us, will serve us well - enjoy, but do not go overboard! Appreciate your support dear Subra - siva
