Double Century at Wikinut – My Reflections

Every milestone is an occasion to take stock and reflect on the experiences of the ride. I am completing 200 posts in this friendly site where the camaraderie attracts contributors like bees to honey – Wikinut becomes an addiction and for me it is a refuge from a harsh world that means only business.

Wonderful Family

This is my 200th post at this site where I feel a part of a wonderful family. My time spent here has been worth every minute and that means couple of hours almost every day during the last three years! Though I am finance and accounts person, my main take is about life in general, politics that mostly spoils the well-being of the common citizens, and hatred instigated in the name of beliefs that pits one against another. Our planet is akin to a heaven – it is our bounden duty to make it a kingdom to come. We are given the needed wherewithal to achieve this eminently possible task but we prove just ungrateful for all the munificence and blessings showered on us by our Creator through planet earth, our home. Can we ever match the beauty of nature? The message is clear – reach out for the stars and also delve deeper within our souls to find meaning and purpose for our existence. Enjoy the endless variety and accept that everything is transient in the creative process. There is a master pilot at the wheel to keep us alive – just lend our shoulders to this humongous process that we are blessed to be part of.

Cosmetic Progress

There can be only one Creator and we should have the freedom to pursue the way we choose to live and allow others also similar freedom. I highlight the hypocrisy being practiced in the name of religion with few even trying to gate-crash into heaven with blood in their hands all in the name of their beliefs! That is blind belief and more of hatred written all over their thoughts and deeds. Now even intra-religious fight to finish is spreading – clearly our progress has been cosmetic. Some cannot accept others who are same like us but have different culture- can they jump out of their skin? Nature thrives in diversity but we take ourselves to be the chosen one. I highlight this sad plight and the fall-outs of such thinking and selfish lifestyle.

Greed and Ego

The Creator has taken care to provide us with everything to meet our needs but not the insatiable greed! From each according to ability and to each as per need will soothe our lives and bring total involvement of all strata of society – an inclusive society is the gateway to heaven. But as greed has spread like a cancer to the very innards of our society, we need total cleansing to reclaim a higher purpose to life that all religions teach. Sadly, though most take themselves to be believers, they feel it is just wishful thinking to find peace in this world – is it not then perpetuating an unsustainable lifestyle that will doom us along with our fellow travelers sooner or later? The contribution of nature is 99% to our existence and ours could be just 1% not taking into account the wanton destruction that nature covers up for us 24/7! We need to eschew greed and ego that pin us down to mediocrity.

Politics

Most countries have been practicing democracy with different hues – some are chaotic in their functioning but everywhere the common citizens seem to be short-changed with few setting the agenda and running away with the spoils with leaders elected by the majority getting beholden to the few puppet masters. Our elected leaders should remind themselves every time when they make a big decision - who elected them and based on which agenda? That will give them proper direction and the will power to tell off those who try to cross the borders against the will of the people

Our Future

Peace is eminently possible with the right approach. Some try to divide people by misleading them, playing on their emotions to set one against another. Wars are instigated by few but end up innocents killing another; there are no victors. The real fight for peace start from our hearts and that ushers in a border-less world. I have found with the right attitude we can change how we lead daily lives – take all news in our stride. Likewise, we should change our attitude to progress without borders and not at the cost of another. One need not lose for another to win; if so, that proves a Pyrrhic victory in the end – the feeling of being short-changed acts as a dampener against peace and healthy co-existence. The big powers should act as one against the common enemy and start disarmament before it is too late.

Wikinut - My Home

I have been highlighting my take on the state of society and the world in general that play on my mind all the time. I feel encouraged when they touch a chord with many readers. Everyone feels we are entitled to a much better world and share the angst and pangs of heartburn when justice is denied to the majority with few manipulating events to suit their selfish agenda. Others come with similar takes but the intensity and emotions vary, as it should, for us to have a balanced view of the state of affairs. Wikinut is a lovely platform that enhances our writing skills with moderators understanding, encouraging and even chipping in on their own. I had similar experience with the now defunct YCN and the exchange of views and sharing the camaraderie make my day. Media has experts on various subjects but they do not give voice to ordinary people and come with their own agenda. Wikinut fills the gap, like few others, and has managed to stay the course. I take a realistic view of monetary rewards we get, or even lack thereof, but this platform is relevant and has attracted those with similar passion from around the world. I love to read others and comment, encouraging them to feel at home. Being part of this site means a lot to me and I feel blessed.

Thank you Helen for resonating with and finding meaning in my posts. We have made real progress no doubt; end of cold war even though we are not yet out of the woods, fall of the iron curtain, end of apartheid.

However, we should also realize we rob the children of God given innocence by making them toe the line of a cruel adult world of suspicion, division, greed, ego and hatred. Then the vicious cycle is perpetrated ad nauseam. Sadly, our agenda is set by those without a conscience who profit through heaping misery on others. They are a minuscule but wield power due to their wealth. Einstein's words are ever relevant - Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Let us have the wisdom to sow what we want to reap - siva

Thanks Ptrikha for your encouragement and suggestion. I will try but I worry I may take a serious view of fun stuff and don't forget comedians take their art seriously with some even taking their own lives ending up as tragedians!

Jokes apart, I will try to take up the role when I run out of ideas on serious stuff (quite unlikely). I recall the Bard - All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In a way we just act our parts expected of us every moment - siva

Congrats, Siva! Your posts are enlightening and carry the message of hope and gratitude for a site of free expression.

While we think we still can express our opinions freely, such expressions actually reach very few. The world's population is bombarded with the messages of politics, which serve only to expand the mind warp of the despots in power.

I join you in gratitude for the avenues that allow grass roots expression and continue to welcome and enjoy yours.

Thank you LeRain for your views and support. This site serves as a platform of free expression and even debate - it is a microcosm of the world itself.

Freedom and democracy have been hijacked by few to serve their interests just like within a family and workplace where those who shout loudest get their way and enjoy maximum space. The majority are just accommodating and exploited. Our leaders should never forget who elected them to power and based on what agenda. Sadly, they have short memories, or is it a mere game of survival in the end?

I always look forward to your posts with interest and let us enjoy the variety as it takes all kinds to make this world - siva

Congratulations on #200. My goal at YCN was to have 200 articles and they went out of business when I had 199 and had submitted my 200th one! Maybe I can make 200 here as I like this platform and the atmosphere here. Great article for your milestone.

Thank you Bill. I had 387 at YCN and few at Bukisa too. The camaraderie here makes up for more than what others are supposed to pay at a higher rate. I like to stick to my subject of passion and I am allowed freedom in that respect. In fact, I love to read what others post and they reciprocate too - the icing on the cake! siva

Lord Sivaramakrishnan A
I promised to read more of your works Today I thought was the right time and lo and behold I see I have already read this one...You are Wiki number one Your each article =100 of one’s poetry .We sail far behind like ancient history .
The best I like about you is that you reply each one as much as I do too, but you comment on each other one you read too, so diligently. How I wish I could accomplish like you.
You are the MOON of Wiki the Sun, many stars will come and burn
in their own turn
but a sun will be like the beehive,
where all bees to reach do strive.

I am not much of a writer like you but hope to be a patch if no match,
some day
one day.
You have always shown me the light of day as one enters the tunnel of darkness; one wonders whether one will ever see the light at the end of that way. Lord you stand there to welcome all, be one like me small or like the Moderators tall. You are the WikiNUT number one of all.
I pray may you continue to educate youth,
who want a great guidance from you .Teach them the art of appreciation, humour and sharing of knowledge. I try to, but coming from the horse’s mouth, they will listen My Lord to you. Have great 2015 and rule Wiki as we all along with you ride, you on horseback we aside, side by your side
You are our Alexander perhaps we simple followers. But don’t like him turn back, continue the whole world needs the greatness that abounds in you.
I seek your permission to share my simple vision, of a man I admire most, with others too.
God Bless you all.

Thank you dear Loverme - you are so generous with your words of encouragement and praise that I do not know whether I am really worthy of! These are more rewarding than the dollars and cents in life.

I look around and also reflect on my life and feel the urge to share what I discern about life in general and the reality of the world in general. Wikinut has given me a platform to share with you all and I feel indeed blessed.

Everyone is part of creation - the oneness in creation but the uniqueness in each has be respected so that we find common ground and forge ahead to become true co-creators and not just be passengers without realizing our responsibility. We need to respect the role we are given and reflect on it from time to time. Nature adapts with a master at the wheel dodging disaster every moment so that we, our forefathers and successors too ride out our lease here. Let us enjoy as one as long as it lasts and accept what is in store in good grace - siva

Dear Siva, I really appreciate your deep thoughts after 200 postings. Really an enviable landmark! Writing about life in general and the reality of the world in practical terms seem to be your passion and your thoughts and words reflect how you feel about this world and how people should do more to make it a better one.

Thanks dear Subra for your unstinting support, I am grateful. Our world is meant to be a paradise, presented as one on a silver plate. What we value add may not even be 1% but we are destructive more and more by the day. Instead of embracing the diversity, we tend to highlight it negatively. There can only be one creator and He does not need our support, but we fight in His name! Creator is in what we see and don't, everywhere! As one friend told me, may his soul rest in peace, would you decry your own belief? We tend to overlook the warts in our beliefs while highlighting supposed faults in others! Some tell me - just grin and bear it, but I feel we should never yield to injustice.

One fellow contributor said my posts are like sand, but on closer examination each is different! I may add rats also in this analogy! I feel humbled by the support I have been getting and feel grateful for this site and the generous fellow contributors. I take a bow! siva

I am so glad that you have made Wikinut your home because we enjoy your articles, your positive attitude towards life and the wisdom that you share with us! We are so blessed by you here on Wikinut!! I no longer have Internet service at home so I don't get to comment as often as I want. Right now I am at the Library reading and commenting!

HI Siva, I am applauding you on a job well done. I enjoyed reading the entire article you have written here. Where you wrote, "The real fight for peace start from our hearts and that ushers in a border-less world," I hope this means spiritually because my thought is, countries, people, need to maintain and keep their borders safe. Values of rules are always a good thing while still maintaining humility at heart. Enjoyed my read sir and have a good day there. Smiles, Bets

Thank you Bets for your support and thoughts, appreciated. May our hearts know no borders!

Yes, countries need to protect their borders but there should be no borders as far as humanity, compassion and kindness are concerned. We share the air we breathe, water and also birds do not see any borders. The more we build barriers, the more strife we create among ourselves - so we should know where and how to draw the line - siva
