Driving and Singing

Have you ever been upset and just needed to get away? Where? Anywhere to just get your thoughts clear. Let me ask you another question, have you ever been driving in one of those moments and a song comes on that seems to say exactly what you are going through? This is about one of those moments.

Driving and Singing

I went for a drive one summer's eve
I needed to clear my head.
The breeze blew through my open window,
and down the road i sped.
I had no clue where i was headed.
I just knew I had to drive.
On open roads and winding trails
my heart would be my guide.
The roads seemed empty, no other cars
to slow me in my travels.
Peace and quiet (too much quiet)
my thoughts began to unravel.
The feelings I had gathered up
and tucked into a ball
suddenly came spilling out,
and tears began to fall.
I wiped my face off on my sleeve
and turned the music on;
a musical distraction or so it seemed
and I began to sing along.
I sang....

"Baby baby baby cant you tell me why?
I thought that we were heading towards the sky.
Then I realized that it was just me.
All that i'd been chasin was only a dream."....

Through stop lights and empty streets
I kept on singing this song.
The woman's voice that sang this tune
transformed into my own.
It was almost as if she read my heart;
My soul emblazoned with pain.
But as I sang those lyrics out
my balance quickly regained.
And we sang.....

Baby baby baby, can't you tell me why?
Why you let me waste all of this time?
Thought that you were different when you came on the scene.
And then she told me that
All that I had been chasin was only a dream.
I wanna know why,
you let me hold onto you?
I wanna know.
Don't I deserve that?
If your heart wasn't there
why couldn't you let me know,
instead of telling her?
Oh baby baby baby, won't you tell me why?
I thought that we were headed towards the sky.
I finally realized it was just me.
All that I'd been chasin was only a dream.
Only a dream
only a dream.....

I must've driven for hours that night
Crying, and hurting, and thinking
And when the song had finished playing
I turned the radio off, and kept right on driving and singing.
Until my hurt was gone.

Understand the hurts, turn them off after learning the lessons, serve us well as we have to look ahead as creation and universe show us the way.

Thanks for this share - siva

Thank you Siva! Your comments have inspired me to continue doing what I love.... Writing. This poem is rather simplistic but the poetic part that I was trying to get across was rather than tell the reader what the driver was upset about I decided to tell them through the lyrics of a song on the radio. I hope it came across as clearly as I had envisioned. And you are right again, you go through trials to learn lessons and when the lesson is finished you move on and hopefully you don't repeat the lesson later on in life. Thank you Siva!

This could be a country song. Good work.

Thanks Mark! I'm not sure what genre of music inspired my "lyrics" I just kinda went with the flow in my head. But in rereading it I agree it very well could be a country song. Good observation and thanks so much for posting!

Hi Aim4thestars, I just added you to my list of followers after reading this. I love the way you express your thoughts here. We all need time to ourselves sometimes. I like to take nature walks and always feel better afterwards. Blessings.

Thank you Kingwell! I'm so happy you liked it! And thanks for adding me. I always drive when I'm stressed out. Nature walks are good too. I guess just taking yourself out of the situation and seeing a change of scenery is helpful at times. It helps you to remember that there is a bigger world out there.
So happy you commented!
Thanks again.
