Delayed post about how we celebrated our Easter with an Easter Egg Hunt for the children less privileged and a snack after.

Easter Sunday

Last Sunday April 20, 2014 was Easter Sunday. For Catholics it is when Our Lord Jesus who died on the cross for our sins on Good Friday, the Friday before Easter Sunday has Risen. It is the time when we rejoice and people go out and bond with families and friends. Sometimes they have picnics or a special lunch. We had a simple but a little more special than usual lunch. I baked chicken and had some vegetable. There was only 4 of us, my mother, my daughter, her boyfriend and me. I did not prepare much because I had an Easter Egg Hunt prepared for the less privileged children around. I usually invite 5-8 kids, just a small one.

Preparing the Eggs and Goodies

I have some plastic eggs that open but every year 1 or 2 get lost. It is to be expected. I also prepared some coins and maybe 1 or 2 special prizes, meaning a paper bill like 20 pesos. The others will have coins. So all in all I would have 150 pesos more or less for the money. Then I would put 3 pieces of candies. I used to put chocolate candies but they would melt. So now only hard candies. Then I would put them in small plastic bags and tie it. It is to prevent ants from getting in and also prevent the eggs from opening. If there are extra candies I would make a few bags, putting some in the plastic bags and maybe put a coin or two. I had 51 plastic eggs and 20 plastic bag goodies.

But Of Course There are the Hard Boiled Eggs

Of course I cooked some hard boiled eggs. They are the important ones. I only made 20 eggs but 1 egg fell and cracked and my dog got to it first hahah. They cost 6 pesos each so I only did 20. All in all the goodies added to 90 pieces. After boiling, I cooled it and the others started to paint them different designs. I also placed them in plastic bags. To keep them clean and in case they cracked, no dirt can get in. Don't they look nice and colorful?

Hiding the Goodies

Since I was busy with other things, I assigned my daughter and her boyfriend to hide the eggs. The backyard and the front were big enough to hide them all. As you can see in the pictures some were obvious but took a longer time to find. The funny thing is they also forgot where they hid some. They also helped prepare the snacks for after the hunt. Any way they are younger and have more stamina to do all those things, it's my turn to rest.

1-2-3 FInd!

I gathered the kids and some had companions. When I shouted 1-2-3 find they all went running around to look for the eggs and goodies. I gave them a plastic bag to put what they found inside. After a while we counted them to see if the number of goodies matched with the ones found. We had to go back and find again when we found out there was some still missing. The older people stood by and watched. Even my dogs just watched. I remember 8 years ago when I was hiding the eggs, my pet dog Candy (she died already) was following me. I didn't place the hard boiled ones in plastic or colored it. I was just starting to have the hunts so I learned on the way. I hid quite a few. Then when I sat down on the garden chair and called the kids, there was only 5 or 6 then. When I yelled "Find", my little Candy came running up to me with an egg in her mouth! We all laughed. I let her eat it after I took off the skin. How I miss my dog she was the best. I took a picture but I don't know where it is now, Maybe I saved it, I hope I did. I will post it here if I find it.

Snack Time or and Early Dinner 6pm

I scheduled the hunt for the afternoon because it was too hot during the morning and then we could have a snack or merienda cena or early dinner. I just prepared, hot dog (for the kids of course), cheese sticks, grilled pork and fried rice. I also had Coca Cola for drinks. After saying graces we all ate, Everyone together including the helpers and their kids. I was glad I prepared enough food. It was fun and I'm glad the ones who got the 20 peso bills really deserved it. The kids enjoyed and for sure will be waiting for the next one next year. Also my mom enjoyed and a former husband and wife who stayed with us long ago also came because they had 1 grandchild. It was a nice bonding moment.

My Candy Joining the Easter Egg Hunt Last 2006!

I found the pictures. I just wanted to share. See how cute, she was a small breed Japanese Spitz. I didn't realize that she saw where I hid the eggs. I miss her, she died 2 years later because she got sick.
