The performance of a government is assessed by its people, timely, rightly, and justly.

Poor management of government

The latest hot-shock is fuel oil prices are increased at different ratios, based on the categories, just after three months of last hike. Government is very much worried and caring for its citizens and it would not do anything that would harm the people! On the contrary it has been since grabbing power doing everything that could enhance tension, raise high alerts and unnecessary. If we check the list it could be better-
- Mutiny at BDR. Bangladesh Border Defense Regiment
- Extra-judicial killing
- Dismissing its own corruption cases
- Change in Constitution
- Arresting opposition leaders in the name of War Crimes, (None arrested from its own party!)
- Failure in managing Share market
- Failure to address the scam projects of MLM or Online traders (e.g., unipay2you, speak asiaonline, and berryonline)
- Non-execution of Corrupt Care taker Government bodies
- Corruption at the Judicial Courts
- Let go to price hike
- Let go to inflation
- Let go to unemployment
- Let go to fuel oil price
- Let go to taxes and VATs
- Fuelling political tension by avoiding dialogue of any sorts
- Media laws corrections
- Unpopular or inactive Ministries
- Failed foreign policy
- Failed export of manpower
There are many others which would simply lengthen the list of failures of the most populist government Bangladesh would ever had in this decade. The tremendous affect of sheer majority could turn any government into an anarchist or authoritarian. Bangladesh is the example.
Let us focus our attention to the current hot topics of fuel oil price.
Is it inevitable to hike price of fuel oil?
The Government response is yes, as it would no longer bear the cost of subsidy.
Why there should be a subsidy? People do not want to hear anything about it, rather want peace and stable price. The logic behind are more funny that India is the indirect reason for price hike; arguing that oil will be black-marketed to India if the price is cheaper here. How the oil would be black-marketed? Where is the transportation system, what would be the carriages mode? Where are the Customs authorities? Where is Border security? Where are intelligence agencies? By carrying one drum or two drums of oil mean nothing to the broader aspect of demand and supply. So, people and experts deemed it as a shallow logic behind it.
What is the process of price hike?
Annual budget: In the parliament when budget is submitted, all subsidies related information and adjustments is needed to be addressed. In the budget when income and expenditure matter, the finance minister must identify the earnings sources and expenditures. But in Bangladesh last budget the deficit / subsidy was shown as eight thousand crore taka. Today the Petroleum Ministry is claiming the amount to be eighteen thousand crore! Why the deviation is come up no one knows!
Second option is – to give a public hearing by Regulatory bodies who controls the price. This time no hearing was given by the Regulatory Commission. All on a sudden in the night it was declared that the prices of fuel oil and CNG increased at different rates.
The immediate impact:
- Chaos. All the motor vehicles rushed to the Refilling pumps and pumps are overwhelmed by the sudden influx of customers.
- Mismanagement rampage, shouting and quarrelling started as the quantity is rationed.
- The immediate cash credit supplies of consumers are in disarray.
- All the prices of commodities and passengers will be increased.
- Transportation price hiked is addressed by Government, but not implemented. Social problems derived as a result.
- If Government adjusts the price by 2%, in practice the same would go beyond 2%, resulting from more costs for public.
- Inflation of everything will burn the savings and earnings of people, resulting from a decline in the standard of living.
- Devaluation of Taka has brought another drastic effect on the economy, where import costs of commodities increased, and the real value of productivity decreased.
Government is more interested in appeasing and satisfying the Big power like US and India, and confirm power sustainability, as it knows that the popularity has been plummeted ever since it took to power, due to various anti-people or negative measures, which look like full vengeance and unrealistic. Moreover, competencies of the Ministries are always in question in the people’s mind. Necessary rectification is needed in order to make the economy on track where at present inflation rate is 12%. People are at stake in pursuing their daily needs; commodity market is burning like hell. Experts not the political allies are needed to be consulted and fixing up the economic strategies. At present no such actions are seen.

Democracy seems to be a sham in many places - it is more like anarchy. Majority under the thumb of few elites, sadly. Hope Bangla Desh gets better leaders, Karim - siva

Be strong and careful to keep working forward. If there is an answer to the mayhem, it is being searched for Globally. The situations caused by not taking action tend to fill the pockets of the select few who see it all as necessary to sacrifice as long as permitted.
