Factors in Collective Consciousness

Humankind has an underlying collective consciousness that is built-in for our survival. Having been placed at the apex of all species, we have a higher task. We can be the lord of all we survey but that comes with responsibilities too – let our actions resonate them.

Oneness of Humanity

Human species has collective consciousness that others also may have. Elephants are said to be like us as they show similar emotions, grieve for their dead and help each other in distress – in fact, they too seem to have collective consciousness. We come with an inner knowing and also a homing instinct that we cannot describe fully and elucidate. That is the underlying thread that binds us as one and lies deep within irrespective of our beliefs or lack thereof. Whatever happens around the world they touch a chord as we imbibe the news. They give rise to varying emotions though our beliefs may color their impact. But the fact is they resonate but how we react is according to our circumstances. When a killing occurs we feel it is bad though some may justify it that it had to happen. Such man-made twist in reactions causes divisions within society and humanity itself. We are the sum of all parts and to rise in consciousness we should move to a level where we are more than the parts – to find real meaning in a collective journey. Now some are rocking the boat as we enter stormy waters to bring our abrupt end before what is meant for us as nature is still very supportive giving us a clean, hospitable, environment where all our needs are met.

Stuck in a Rut

Our history has influenced our thinking and has given us food for thought mainly from some bitter lessons. Some events have left their indelible mark and it is foolish to think we can reap different produce by sowing the same seeds of destruction though we tempt fate once too often! Increasingly we are playing with more potent fire giving the few the ammunition to destroy with more intensity. That shows our collective consciousness is stuck in a rut and we are unable to see the whole picture. It is easier to destroy than construct – the underlying thrust seems to be to hit below the belt to get even. Have we reached an impasse though we know what we have to do to overcome the obstacles?

Hara-kiri

Life is a series of events to test our mettle both individually, as a society, country and humanity itself. Our species has no enemies except from within; we can self-destruct! We are even finding ways to be safe from possible outside risks and I quote a news headline “Armageddon 2040: NASA identifies new asteroid threat which 'could hit Earth' in 30 years' time - and UN teams are working out how to divert it”. Yes UN is involved, but where are they for threats from within? We tend to look for enemies and threats from the outside; though we have much goodness within but also the ability to commit hara-kiri - self-destruct!

Towards Collective Consciousness

Can we factor in our collective consciousness as the underlying basis for unity? I list below what matter for our well-being and even survival as we seem to take one way path to total annihilation.

Lives Matter: Let us protect our precious lives; value others like we do ours! I take that view I cannot be at peace if others are not while I can be happy if others are happier, better off than me. As for me, happiness does not depend on my possessions – it is just a state of the mind, within my control.

Role as Co-creator: The best reward is by playing our role as co-creators. Many who see the fruits of their endeavor through nature will testify to that. Destruction maybe part of nature but for regeneration – not the blind fury that we indulge in that is a recipe for disaster and endless strife.

Leave a better world: I have read from doctors who attend to people with terminal diseases that they are far distanced from worldly possessions as the time draws near. In fact, caregivers are their constant companion than their own! And poignantly, to drive home the point of oneness of humanity, I have seen those holding their hands happen to be from beliefs that are fighting each other – what an irony that is replayed from time immemorial!

Stand by the Creative Process: We should align ourselves with the creative process and that is through our inner knowing.

In the Same Boat: We are traveling in the same boat – if our acts capsize it we are all goners! Wherever we might go hereafter our physical casing meets the same fate, here to nourish our planet and to merge with all, recycled!

Listen to Inner Voice: Pause and ponder whenever we can to feel and live the oneness.

Side with the Good: Some may be carried away by the vicissitudes of life to take a wrong path. Everyone can spread a cheer to reinforce the fact that life is worth living when nature stands by us. Let us be grateful and that is the basis for being good.

Overcome the Slip between the Cup and Lip

It is time to move towards the oneness of creation than take a separate, individualistic, self-destructive path. We have to break the chain of getting even – an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind is what Gandhi said. We know the way but we refuse to heed the writing on the wall. Our leaders play politics, burn their fingers and later go into retirement trying to justify their actions blaming them on circumstances; yes, they do play their part but could have reacted much better. Some may justify destroying countries even but the truth is the 99% in every country has good people – what stands in the way is the trust deficit due to what we bring to the table in terms of our past record. When we can unite to save the world from an asteroid threat in 2040, can we not do so to set our own house in order? When we do what is right for the 99%, ego and greed will not decide what we do. The challenge is to do what is right to overcome the slip between the cup and the lip.

Thanks Madan. We should never take our eyes of the ball as evil forces wait to strike when peace seems to return.

The world has overcome what looked impossible - fall the Iron Curtain, dismantling of Apartheid etc., Those happened when the collective consciousness asserted.

I believe if we are destined to survive we will also find ways to coexist. That is the desire of the vast majority everywhere - siva

Dear Siva .. You write of a Paradise on earth that can never be attained while sinful mankind dwells here .
When Adam and Eve sinned, all humankind has been tainted by their fallen state .... and because of that , it took a loving God to intervene by sending His own Son, Jesus , to pay the ultimate price for our sins ....
Until the whole of humanity repents and turns back to God there will always be emnity in this world . Nation will rise against nation , and man , created in the image of the Living God, will fight for the things it selfishly desires .
One day , my dear friend ...God will say ...Enough is enough , and put an end to all the evil ... but until that day comes I pray many will humbly turn to the One who can save them from destruction , and enter into His wonderful Kingdom of life and love .
Many blessings to you my friend

Thanks dear Stella, I feel we should still press on so that the good prevails. It is up to us which path we choose to take.

I quote Martin Luther King's resonant words:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.”

We should keep fighting the good fight and let us hope it matters to turn the tide or at least keep the evil at bay!

Let us remember what Jesus said “The Kingdom of God Is Within You” - siva

If we strive to do what is right, and good, our collective consciousness would change then too I guess, for the better too.

We need to individually do all that we can to turn the tide as much as we can, as you said in your great answer to Stella.

Thanks Spirited for your encouragement.

We are bestowed with awareness of what is right and we should do in ways other than through weapons - which can be the last resort.

Now we search for peace by sowing more seeds of hatred. Battles are won but the war is lost as they leave a bitter taste in the mouth!

I quote what is attributed to Edmund Burke - "The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing" - siva

Thanks dear Carolina for your motivation.

I write what comes naturally within me so that we keep pressing on as I feel negative thoughts spread faster; the hatred and intolerance spewed in the internet know no limits.

Hatred comes easy but we have to work assiduously for peace. That is the challenge we face increasingly as more and more powerful weapons are finding their way into "wrong hands"!

I worry that leaders will be elected who can easily trigger another World War and I recall Einstein's words - “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

We can soon be at the position of no return with few holding us to ransom - siva

Thanks Brendamarie, we have little choice but to accommodate all as an eye for eye will make the whole world blind as Gandhi said.

It is time we raised our bar of human consciousness to live the divinity inherent within us - siva

Dear Siva, It is worth considering that obstacles on the life journey can be temporary obstructions in our achievements, but not obstructions in our happiness. One of the most important ways of remaining happy during the journey with many challenges co-existing at the same time is increasing the wealth of our thinking. The right type of thinking will make us happy. If we raise the bar of our thinking we can see how rich and full we feel internally which will make us pure happiness-conscious. Likewise, if everyone thinks this way, we can see how our collective consciousness can make for a better world.

Thanks dear Subra for your wise thoughts shared as always.

Those with a philosophical bend of mind will take the challenges and obstacles as necessary for our spiritual development and that there is a purpose behind them - sort of a method and purpose in the madness!

However some take every step as "us and them" even our faiths as a competition to prove which is better. We can see what some American presidential hopefuls are basing their agenda on - forget their own tails seem to be on daily fire!

The beauty in creation and individual take is showing by example how to live our lives so that others around us can imbibe that way and feel inspired.

The irony is the vast majority shows the right way how to coexist but few are setting our agenda in a way to resonate the words of Edmund Burke “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Hopefully we are inching closer to do what is needed for peaceful coexistence - siva

Thank you Siva for another good share. You are an amazing person as you seem not to judge others at all yet find a way to speak well of them without compromising your principles. Besides reading your articles I always enjoy reading the comments and your responses which are often amazing. If only the vast majority could see our oneness
as you do. Blessings.

Thanks Kingwell for such motivating words, I feel fulfilled in my efforts.

I want to be truthful to myself and I feel every action, and even thought, matters in the creative process. I feel everyone has a reason to act and react in their own way. I do not worry about myself but I want justice for the silent majority whose voices are stifled by a conniving minority, democracy and freedom notwithstanding.

I spent few days with a young Syrian Muslim couple and I found their yearnings were similar like everyone everywhere; to have a peaceful world to bring up their yet to be born children - siva
