Fast changing realities; unnerving but accept them to find inner peace

Realities of the world around us unnerve anyone. How we change what we can for the better and accept those that we cannot - is the only way to find sanity and peace of mind.

Facets to life

Subconsciously we want stability in our lives to feel comfortable, but changing realities of life take us unawares. They can never be wished away, knock us out of our senses but how we face them decides our journey. We suddenly feel the end of the world syndrome in personal lives, but thankfully they are soon forgotten. We move on and the sooner we accept them as part of life, the smoother will be our journey.

We have stages in our lives. Each stage is challenging, seamless transition from one to another is only for the few. Childhood is mostly enjoyed and then the rebellious adolescence with our parents mostly understanding and forgiving. When we transition to adulthood, the more the challenges and few yearn to remain children at heart! But we have to face life’s vicissitudes squarely or accept defeat and take defensive posturing. Life then becomes a trial, hardly enjoyed.

The world around us

The world is moving at a fast clip and we are dragged along against our will. Run we must, just to stay where we are! Or see others pass by and left with a life of missed opportunities. Such pace is not for the faint-hearted, but do we have a choice? We have to survive amid prophets of doom, deception, envy, but thankfully also helping hands, kind and kindred souls to make us feel relevant and counted. None needs to be a loser unless we refuse to see the silver linings in our lives.

Though utopia will be a mirage due to our innate nature, we have progressed not only materially but also in terms of lifestyles; not the mindless ones of the few, but our rising awareness of our follies. We are clueless how to fix our issues, but I feel we like to tempt fate than find a way out of self-created darkness. So far, we have had a fairly smooth run in the end!

We see the news headlines repeating same issues that are like festering wounds and seem to go on forever. We even accept them; maybe, even feel they keep bigger issues at bay! They range from financial crisis to nuclear weapons proliferation. They pit one against the other; how easy it will be if we tackle them on a spirit of compromise? But common sense is not that common, another reality that we have to live with as an eternal truth!

Generations before us had been born and passed on hitting the same road blocks. That means we can never be out of the woods in our lives, and keep going around is circles. That is our fate unless we all learn to forge ahead as one and turn variety as our strength. Now we see it as a division. Uniformity in thinking and focus will never be achieved as long as we are carried away by outward appearances, selfish agendas.

Form a personal angle, we have to live with daily pressures and accept them as reality. Our subconscious mind is also attuned to such a state of mind. Maybe, we want to feel superior, succumb to our ego, and lord over others to assert our superiority. When life is taken as a zero-sum game of winning and losing, not to enjoy a united victory and a smooth ride, we have to accept the present predicament.

Hope for a better turn

Can we move to the next level of coexistence whereby we are comfortable with a more altruistic lifestyle? The change has to come within us and our leaders will then get the message. But when we feel the bad elements in our midst are incorrigible and incapable of turning a new leaf, we have to accept lots of negativity on a daily basis. We are left to react to the few who set the agenda with the majority having no choice but to act as firefighters.

Do we have a choice as common folks than to accept those that do not make sense to find inner peace? Though we have a sense of failure at our incapacity to change course, we have to find solace than lead a life of disillusionment and discontent. Change what we can and accept what we cannot - is the only way to assure a life of sanity.

I am indeed grateful for your comments, Ivy. I try to make sense of our, sometimes, senseless world! People react strangely when they find themselves at the end of their tether. But soon it is all water under the bridge! siva

Thanks Steve, for the star. What a pleasant surprise! Mine is mostly opinion and commentary on our daily lives and hence tough to qualify for star pages as per your guidelines. You have proved the adage - every rule has an exception. I am grateful to you - siva

Good question-
Can we move to the next level of coexistence whereby we are comfortable with a more altruistic lifestyle?

(Hope so!)
