As Exam week draws to a close, Felipe and Andrew realize that the will miss each.

A Perfect World

Three hours and many tears later sleep finally overtook Felipe. Again he dreamt of Andrew but this time it was more of a platonic dream - almost spiritual as though they lived in a perfect world where there was no judgement or condemnation and both were madly in love with each other. Our hero awoke to the real world shortly after seven and remembered that he had two exams to write today. Andrew too was awake and they arose together when Mrs. Ball's knock on the bedroom door told them that the usual jug of warm water was waiting for them. The boys washed and went downstairs for breakfast where they chatted with Mona and Ada and later all four walked to the school together. The day passed quickly and everyone was pleased with the exams. Returning to their boarding house they made plans for a walk again that evening as tomorrow's final was in the afternoon and was also their last. Andrew noted that Felipe was talking more, especially when they were alone but it still seemed as if his words were guarded. Once he had noticed his friend looking at him as if in admiration and wonder and although Felipe had looked away quickly, he was certain that he was blushing as if he was afraid that his thoughts might be read in his expression.

Jealous Felipe

The pairing off started early that evening, maybe because everyone was more relaxed. By eight o'clock the group that had gathered in the vicinity of the only shop still open, had dwindled from thirty eight to fourteen. It was clear to others in the crowd that Ivy Hodder, a sixteen year old girl from Harbour Deep, had eyes only for Andrew who remained completely oblivious to the fact. Felipe too had been getting the eye from Ruby Jesso, also from Harbour Deep, who had fancied him from the day they had arrived at Mrs. Ball's house. Felipe, of course showed no interest whatsoever, in fact was anxious to get back to Mrs. Ball's before Ivy grabbed Andrew by the hand and insisted that he walk back to the house with her. He remembered when he saw Rodney and Irene together for the first time and felt the same rage growing within him. He knew that he was being ridiculous but it was something that he could not control. When Mona suggested that it was time to leave, he saw the look of disappointment on Ivy's face and felt a tinge of remorse.

An Horrendous Curse

He was thankful that the girls did not speak of Ivy's obvious obsession with him to Andrew, either on the walk home or as they ate their nightly snack. As the boys retired to their room Felipe thought of Ivy and realized that he was jealous of her. He was happy to be the one who was sleeping with Andrew and was actually looking forward to the feel of the boy's arm around him, no matter what it did to his hormones. Tomorrow would be their last night together and he knew that he would miss his friend, He also knew that their time together would provide fodder for his sexual fantasies when he returned home and as he waited for sleep to come in the bed where he now slept alone. He was also more convinced then ever that he must carry his secret to the grave. Andrew was a good and trusted friend and even Mona might keep his secret but he was satisfied that neither of them must ever know of his perverted ways or of the horrendous curse that God had placed upon him. It would be much better he thought to be remembered as someone who preferred to live alone then to be thought of as one who probably should not be allowed in the company of 'normal' people.

"I'm going to miss you"

Deciding it would be best to study for their last exam in the morning, the boys just lay on the bed, each apparently lost in his own thoughts. Andrew was the first to break the silence, reaching out and putting an arm around his companion he simply said, "I'm going to miss you buddy". Felipe's heart skipped a beat and for a moment he did not trust his voice to speak. Andrew had said he would miss him! Now his heart was beating so hard he was certain that Andrew must be able to hear it. At last he found his voice and without looking at Andrew replied softly, "me too my friend, me too". He wanted to add "more than you'll ever know" but instead kept those words to himself. No one must ever know that his feelings for his Andrew went far beyond friendship. He did however, put an arm around him and when he did there hands touched for the first time. Felipe would often think of that moment later, he could only describe the feeling as being like an electric shock! He glanced at Andrew but clearly he was feeling nothing of the sort. They sat again in silence, and Felipe knew that he had to make a trip to the outhouse as that was the only place he could be sure of being alone, otherwise he would probably be awake most of the night. He hoped too that Andrew wouldn't notice the erection he was sporting.

I'm like Marilyn. I've been following but not commenting to this point -- didn't want to guess or ruin an ending with my thoughts one way or another. But I approve of what you're doing here. Many layers all working together as people try to deny themselves for some perceived greater good.

Felipe is on a roller-coaster of emotional ride like most others in teenage years. Hope he comes out unscathed! Quite gripping, Kingwell - siva
