Felipe's first day at Purity Factories goes well. Later he talks about it to his new family and writes letters to his parents and Mona. He becomes suspicious of the way Jordan looks at him.

Nightly Ritual and An Early Rise

Both boys had eventually fallen asleep but not until each had performed his nightly ritual in the privacy of the bathroom. Unknown to each other, both were only pretending to sleep while the other was getting rid of his frustrations and tonight for the first time the thought that both might be doing the same thing had crossed their minds. They were sure however, that even if it was true they were not the cause, but that the other was lusting after some young lady of their acquaintance. They had slept well but Felipe had awakened at six and was immediately hit by the thought that this was the day that he started work. All thoughts of sleep were gone and he arose when he heard Phyllis and John up and about. The couple were not surprised to see him and smiled at his eagerness to get an early start on his first day at work. Before ten minutes had passed Jordan was also downstairs and hurriedly eating his breakfast determined as he was to accompany Felipe to Purity Factories on his first day. They had only taken the bus there once and he wasn't sure that his cousin knew the route well enough. There was no way he was going to have Felipe get off at the wrong stop and be late for work on his first day. For his part Felipe felt that he wouldn't have any trouble but nevertheless was pleased to have Jordan come along. Phyllis and John had also felt that it was a good idea and were pleased that Jordan was so willing to help. The bus was crowded, mainly with men going to work. Felipe watched carefully and pulled the cord to signal his stop just as Jordan was about to tell him. They got off the bus and chatted for a couple of minutes before Felipe proceeded to enter the Purity Factories office building and Jordan sat down to await the next bus that would take him home.

First Day at Work

The office manager wasn't surprised that Felipe had arrived fifteen minutes early as it was often the case with new employees and especially with someone starting their first job. As the day progressed however, he was amazed at how quickly the young man was learning the ropes and knew that if it continued he would be working on his own within a week. At lunch time he opened the brown bag that Phyllis had handed him as he was about to leave the house that morning and found three bologna sandwiches and an apple. The office supplied tea and coffee as well as milk, sugar and disposable cups. Felipe smiled, remembering how he had completely forgotten about having to take a lunch and how Phyllis had quietly gotten it ready without saying a word. He had been embarrassed at first but his cousin's smile soon left him at ease. On the bus home that evening he felt happy and was anxious to tell his new family all about it. He would also write his parents tonight and perhaps even drop a few lines to Mona. He had promised her that he would write and wondered how she felt about her teaching job that would start in a few short weeks. He had also promised Anthony that he would keep in touch but that would have to wait for another time. He remembered that I love Lucy and Father Knows Bests were on TV tonight as well. He would have to write his letters immediately after supper. Jordan had been watching for him and seemed genuinely pleased that he was home. Phyllis was busy preparing supper as she expected her husband home any minute now. She suggested to Felipe that he should wash up and change his clothes as they would be eating in about fifteen minutes.

Suspicion!

As they ate Felipe talked excitedly about the job and answered John's questions. Jordan had a million things to ask him but would wait until they were alone and snugged under the bedcovers. After they had eaten Felipe excused himself and went to write the letters to his mother and Mona. He was just finishing when Jordan entered the room to remind him that the first of their favourite shows would be on in about twenty minutes. When Felipe had sealed the letters and laid them on the night stand, he suddenly turned and although Jordan quickly looked away, Felipe was sure he had been staring at his behind! Feeling that Felipe was suspicious of something, Jordan was now uncomfortably and felt his face turning red. “Come on”, he said without looking at his cousin, “we don’t want to miss Lucy”.

Yes, it is a large book and a good read. Are you going to publish it?

Hi Utah, I am thinking about it but not really sure if I could get a publisher. There are fifty chapters with more to come - but it is short chapters and far too short for a book. Thank you for asking.
