After a night of sharing, trust and consolation, Felipe knows it's time to share his secret with Mona.

A Friend in Need

Cuddled together on her double bed Mona and Felipe cried silently. They were not boyfriend and girlfriend, and both understood that they never would be, yet Mona knew without a doubt that there was no one she wanted beside her right now more than she wanted this young man. She knew too that Felipe was there because he wanted to be with her at this difficult time and that he would stay as long as she needed him. Remembering Delilah, she had left the door slightly ajar because she knew there would be people around and most loved a piece of juicy gossip. There would be those who would believe that there had been more than crying and sleeping going on in Mona's bed even if her mother had just died and the corpse was still in the house. Mona could never understand such people who seemed to enjoy hurting others. She thought of her mother kind and good, who considered Felipe the closest thing to a saint that she expected see in her lifetime. Her father too had great admiration for the boy who treated his daughter with such respect and trusted him completely.

Mona reminisces

Felipe interrupted her thoughts by asking if she would like him to get something for her - a cup of tea perhaps or a drink of water. She declined both but hugged him even more tightly. She began to talk now and Felipe listened, paying close attention just as he knew a good friend should. For more than an hour she talked about her mother, about her earliest memories, the songs she sang to her as a little child - songs passed down by word of mouth from her own mother and no doubt grandmother as well, songs brought over from West Country England, perhaps two hundred years earlier. There were stories too of fairies and elves. that lived in the woodlands, not scary stories for those little people always seemed ready to help anyone in need. Her parents like others in Southern Arm had very little in worldly goods but Mona knew they shared a love and a simple faith that many neither had nor understood. Finally all talked out, she feel into a gentle sleep. It was night time but the moon shining through the window lit up her face. Felipe felt he was looking upon the countenance of an angel!

Time to Share his Secret

Lying there holding Mona and thinking of all she had talked about tonight, how she had shown that she appreciated his company, all that they’d shared in the past three years and the fact that they would be parting in a few weeks, perhaps never to cross paths again - Felipe suddenly knew that he must tell her his secret, that which he had once promised himself that no one but him would ever know. Mona, this beautiful girl for whose love most young men would have given all they possessed, deserved to know the truth of how much he cared for her and why they could never be more than friends – no matter what she thought of him afterwards. With all his heart he prayed that she would understand.

I cannot remember if I suggested this already or not, but every chapter should link to the first one, and every chapter should also link to the chapter after itself, so you should try to go back and EDIT each one if possible to do this so people can read the story all the way through

Thanks Mark. I have chapter 1 connecting # 2 and 2 to 3 etc. but I guess I should also have every chapter connected to # 1. Is this what you are saying?

Deep emotions so well portrayed Kingwell. I can connect with the story as if I am part of it and that shows time and distance do not matter to humanity - siva

Thank you Siva. We are all a part of the human story and time and distance doesn't matter at all.
