Finding Meaningful Life is not chasing a Mirage

Everyone can attain meaningful life if we look around at few who carry on with detached attachment. Life's positive or negative turns do not affect them as they embrace both as part of life. We can only be responsible for our actions and should not be defined by others.

Positivity trumps

We have to be alive in a positive way to enjoy our moments. We live till our last breath, but that can also mean whiling away time without direction and just reacting to events, taking evasive action. Many sleep-walk through life and soon face a dead end after a futile, aimless journey. Thankfully, anyone can find continued meaning with the right attitude and wealth is never an inhibiting factor.

Determining factors

I have observed certain characteristics in people who have control over their lives. They are ever aware of life’s pitfalls and live within their limits. Sadly, others lose their way and find it tough to get back their bearings. They drift away looking back wistfully at lost opportunities. Life can turn cruel before we know it and hence one cannot take it lightly! What can anchor ours despite daily vicissitudes?

Detached attachment: These will also pass - if we have this thought in our minds all the time, we have made a good beginning. The world is the sum total of nature and our combined action. Humans can be the cruelest and also the kindest. We have no clear perception from seeing our own kind from the outside, how they are disposed in life. To get acquainted with another, one has also to be circumspect as there are too many smooth-talkers around to trip us!

Responsible only for own actions: We get easily upset when those we hold dear behave unreasonably at times. But how can our happiness depend on them and be defined by them? Let us chart our own path despite being let down and look ahead. There are many out there who are ready to give us solace during tough times.

Embrace good and bad turns as part of life: The only certainty is the uncertainty. Good is eclipsed by the bad soon and, thankfully, vice versa. Like we read in the papers, one economic crisis after another interspersed with periods of calm. Many fall for this bait as greed overpowers our sanity!

Adaptability at every stage of life and to people: If we cannot adapt, then, we are assured of only misery! One should try to change what we can for the better and accept those we cannot and that means accepting a lot that hurt us. But we cannot be defined by what we have to accept; just grit our teeth and move on.

Focus: My focus is stability and peace of mind. Then reach out to others in need and extending them help is the biggest reward.

Changing roles with each stage in life: One has to seamlessly move on from one stage of life to another. Even when our time is called, never linger after having done our job here! One door has to close shut for another to open and to focus on what lies ahead!

Always a student of life: One has to learn with a positive attitude throughout life. That keeps us alive truly and we imbibe the good so that our journey is not mired in negativity.

Humility Compassion, Empathy: One needs loads of them to lighten our burden. We can easily feel we have achieved a lot through our smart and hard work and lose sight of those who held the ladder for us to climb safely. Let us look back and see them giving us the opportunity through their sacrifices and acknowledge them.

Setting Inalienable focus

I have observed the above qualities in those who savor their lives every day. Setbacks hardly bother them as they are led by clear conscience, focus and never-say-die positive attitude. We can find them everywhere and let us learn from them to make our journey not only worth the while, but also touch as many others as we can to leave positive legacy.

I love your positive attitude. We can choose to either react in a negative destructive way to life's circumstances or in a positive constructive way. I am so glad you chose to react positively. You are a blessing to us all !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Judy, for your kind words and blessings to all. It is easy to see those supposedly ahead and think we are behind them forever. We can blame others, but I always feel we should look at positives in our life than sink into misery. Then again, we have to win the battle within our minds at times! - siva

Thanks indeed Delicia, for sharing words of wisdom from your mom. We need to remember these gems when we we feel we are in the pits. I see few having nothing able to smile than those who are wealthy but greedy. It finally boils down to our attitude. And we should never give others the right to decide our happiness! siva
