This is a tale on the origin of fireflies. It is a fictional story that I told my children.

Main Story

Long time ago deep in the forest, there were some mischievous insects. These insects are nocturnal - that is they only come out at night.

They love playing pranks on the other creatures. They drew on the circles around the eyes faces on some animals. That's why the raccoons and spectacles bears have their look. They managed to get glow in the dark red paint and painted on the nose of a particular reindeer. That's why Rudolf has a red nose.

All the animals were upset. They went to Mother Nature to complaint. She was aware of those insects but asked the others how these insects should be punished. They said, "Make it so they won't be able to sneak up on us."

So Mother Nature made their butt glow. That's how the Firefly got their glow.
