Flying time

Now it´s the time to plan something that will keep us amused and entertained when Autumn and Winter arrives again.

Flying time

Few days ago, it took place the descent of the River Sella in Asturias. This is an international event that take place every year along the River Sella in Ribadesella in Asturias. This race was first started by a Catalan who brought his portable regatta to descent the River Sella with other folks. It became so enjoyable that year after year many more people joined in it to become an international event.
When such events take place in August, one has a feeling that Summer is nearly over. We´ll still have few more weeks of warmth, swims in the beach or the pool and diners in the open air as well as barbecues. But time seems to fly.
How many swims have you had so far? Or, how many of your diners have they been al fresco?
It´s so pleasant to set a table in the patio or garden to serve some summery delights with a summery chilled wine till late. When Winter is here, we´ll have plenty of time to hibernate, staying indoors.
Barbecues work well during the day, but summery diners are what we want late in the evening, isn´t it? Less fussy, because one won´t have to light a fire. There won´t be spillage of oil or dirty plates and cutlery. This open air diner can be a finger one.
Open sandwiches work very well with a choice of items such as avocado to make a guacamole or to make a spread with anchovies, fresh farmer´s cheese and slices of smoked salmon , a choice of cheese and a rich salad with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, capers and pickles.
All of these will be enjoyed with summery wine, sangria or just a couple of bottles of chilled white wine as we enjoy our food and we get engrossed in conversations on how good our holiday was and our plans for the coming Autumn and Winter.
Summer is an enjoyable season that let us stay in the open air till late, but Autumn and Winter are interesting seasons to enjoy.
Everyone will be definitely back from their holidays and cities will be in full swing.
However, some people, like myself, aren´t happy with the arrival of the cool seasons. They´re those who suffer from SAD -Syndrome of Affective Disorder. It means that shorter days and lack of daylight affect us.
What will you do when at five it´s already dark, it´s cold outside and it doesn´t cease to rain? Now, it´s the time to plan a project to keep us busy during the Autumn and Winter. A project will help us to avoid becoming sad or depressed beacuse of Autumn and Winter.
- The arts. If one´s never gotten involved in artistic activities, it´s the time to do so. While we´re working with pencils, drawing pads, crayons or watercolours, we´ll be busy enough to not moan about the bad weather outside.
- Writing is a good activity too, but this is also a lonely one and at the same time we´ve to find for writing groups where to meet people with whom we´ll share our writings. We may also work out an agenda of cultural activities and events to attend.
- Voluntary work can help us out, especially visiting the old and sick one or two days a week, preferbly in the evenings. Don´t they say that by helping others we´re helping to ourselves?
- Learn a new language, joining a class with a teacher and some class mates. If we´re serious at it, we´ll most probably be bit fluent on the chosen language by the Spring. Learning a new language is fun and requires partaking in all sort of activities where we´re going to put into practice what we´ve learnt.
Whatever, but staying indoors moaning about the horrible weather and getting depressed.
