We at Wikinut have a very talented singer in our midst..our very own Songbird Bev.
I just had to write an article about our Bev's beautiful voice.
So come on in to the 'Wikinut Jazz Club'..sit back.. kick off your shoes.. and enjoy!!

Now That's What I Call A Singer

I'm very pleased and proud to say that Bev and I have become personal friends outwith our Wikinut Community connection.

As such, we now keep in regular online contact, and Bev was kind enough to share some of her singing recordings with myself and my family.

When I first heard Bev singing, I was so impressed and blown away by her singing talent.

I think my husband's quotation on hearing Bev's voice for the first time, really captures the
essence of her talent, in saying.."Now That's What I Call A Singer"

A Musical Background Interview With Beverely Borresen

I was so inspired by Bev's singing voice, I asked for her blessing to write an article about her
musical career.
I was delighted when Bev agreed to this, so as with most writers, when writing a piece on a musician,
I carried out an interview with Bev, in order to learn a bit about what lead her on the road to being
the fantastic singer she is.

Mariah
When did you first start singing?

Bev
"I started singing when I was about 15 years old, and I am 51 now, so have been singing about 36 years in all.
I learned to play the guitar and have written about 60 of my own songs, mostly angst-ridden as I went through
my teenage years..ha ha ha ha! It was quite therapeutic really I guess... my music certainly helped me get
through some tough times"

Mariah
Who or what was your inspiration?

Bev
I was inspired, strangely enough by a girl at school who used to sing, she really did have a lovely voice.
My best friend, Sharon, and I started to write our own songs and play our guitars, and it just built up from there.
I was introduced to Professional Backing Tracks by another singer, and realised that my days of playing the guitar
were numbered, when I could have the sound of a complete band of Musicians behind me"

I sang Country, Folk, and 60's/70's and West End Show songs, plus Middle of the Road, Motown, Rhythm & Blues material too, all of which I enjoyed, but it wasn't until I started singing Jazz music that I finally felt I had found my forte..
Laid back Jazz and Swing music beat in time with my heart..It felt effortless....
....that was how my love affair with Jazz began.

Mariah
What Venue types have you entertained in over the years?

Bev
" In the early days when I was finding my feet, I used to gig in pubs with my guitar and drum machine.
I can't tell you how many times the poor singer gets stuck in front of the dartboard, especially when
some bright spark still insists on playing darts!
You soon learned to be agile on your feet ha ha ha!
I jest.. but yep, small poky, smoky corners in a variety of local pubs in my area were my first foray
into the 'Semi-pro' music business.
I did this for quite a while and gained so much experience from it..good and bad....
.....but that's the 'name of the game'.. as they say"

"I also sang at a large Army function in London, but my favourite venues when I started to sing Jazz,
were Restaurants and Clubs.
I enjoyed the more intimate atmosphere of these venues, though I have sung on various stages
in Shows too".

Mariah
Who is your favourite Jazz Singer?

Bev
"Favourite Jazz singer is easy..Ella Fitzgerald..the absolute Queen of Jazz.
I am also influenced by Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Stacy Kent,
Jane Monheit and.. Julie London..who really knew how to create intimacy with
her voice.. her recordings are like velvet"

Mariah
Thank you Bev

So.
now we know when and where it all began for Bev in her singing career, and as is clearly picked from
our interview, Bev has a bubbly personality to go with that fabulous singing voice, which is also a very
valuable additional asset in the world of live entertainment.

That Jazz Razzmatazz

Razzmatazz Roaring 20's & 30's such as old favourites like 'The Charleston', 'Tea for Two', and
'Putting on the Ritz'
The Big Band Sounds, which were the trend back then, and are still as popular today in Jazz Clubs,
Jazz Shows and Musicals.

There is a timeless attraction to this loud, lively, foot tapping and colourful celebration of Music

Sassy Sultry Songstress

I love all Bev's songs, though my personal favourite ( as she is aware of) is a Sassy Wee Number
called 'Temptation'

So much so, I decided to make a video for it and upload it to You Tube.. because Bev truly deserves
recognition
for this performance, of which I'm confident.. will be the unanimous opinion on Bev's talent.

Bev didn't know I was planning to make the video, let alone upload it to You Tube, but I'm delighted to report,
that when I sent her a copy of the video, it very much met with her approval
(Phew..)

This Sassy little number.. sure hits the spot
Sultry and sexy…Wow this song is hot
Such vocal tones for your senses to engage
This musical seduction of the Golden Jazz age.

Autumn Leaves

This is an absolutely amazing recording.
The musical arrangement is lovely, and the fantastic tones in Bev's singing voice come through
strongly
in this song.
I really love
listening to this one because it's truly beautiful.

Once again..I made a 'sneaky wee you tube video' to compliment this, and thankfully, our Bev is once more
pleased with the results....(Double Phew!!..)

The Autumn tears of a lover's sadness
Is the soulful story told
Autumn’s beauty strums the chords of a broken heart
With the falling leaves of red and gold.

Songbird’s velvet toned voice
Softly creates the beautiful mood
Complimenting such soulful music
Making this recording sound... so good

For One Night Only

Yes folks... 'For one night only'..It is my very great privilege and pleasure to introduce our very own Songbird,
singing at 'The Wikinut Jazz Club'

So please join me in a round of applause to welcome tonight's 'Star Guest' to the stage..
The One and Only....Beverley Borresen

A lifetime jazz
Jazz
Louis Armstrong comes to my mind
a distant distinct voice
saying perhaps even for today
‘’BE HAPPY …..
and
so we all must convey
the trumpeter all his jazz’s ways

yes let's be happy today don't worry
as Louis did that one day say
we all know it is a universal gift
that many a maestro does
his voice lift

be happy Bev
as you know her
Songbird as I know
in the wings of time from poetry to prose
and the jazz I hear today
Bev does extremely
a real sensitivity she does display
in her jazzy inimitable way
good luck jazzster
may I that now say….

What a great tribute to our friend Bev. She did my wife Carol and me a huge favor by sending us some of her music about a year ago, and we've been enjoying it ever since. Thanks so much for including more of her fabulous singing talent here. She is both a supremely talented poet and singer.Great star page Mariah.

Awww thank you for this great feedback Steve, loved doing this for Bev and letting everyone hear that golden voice.
Jim and I listen to her music a lot now too, and my 21 year old 'sings temptation' about the house. If you may recall from my page 'music and how we hear it' the 'youth movement elder' is a tough nut to crack in the music appreciation sense ha ha. So it's hats off to Bev all round. She would also love Bev to sing at her wedding when that time comes.
Much appreciation Steve

Well what can I say Mariah?
I am deeply touched by the enormous amount of hard work you have put into this complimentary article..My face was a picture when I first heard myself on youtube thanks to your intervention, and I am still bemused even today..

So many people condemn Jazz music without realising how many forms it can take..My laid back approach to it makes it a relaxing way to wind down after a busy day, and I get so much pleasure from singing this particular style of music..

I can't thank you or our dear Tranquilpen enough in promoting something that gives me so much joy..
A worthy Star page indeed my friend..and bless you and all my other Wikinut friends for such lovely and supportive comments.

Credit comes down to you Mariah, a lot of people can sing, but I'm beginning to think it takes a genius to work out how to add a video to youtube! lol..Your videos were creative and so artistic, creating the perfect mood to match my music..Credit where it is due my friend..Hugs to your heart..XXXX \0/X

The credit belongs to you my dear Bev, we can only produce something good when we have great material to work with, and I sure did.
The videos were completely inspired by your lovely voice ,
I'm just your you tube roadie ha ha and your 'wikinut jazz club' set designer lol.
The rest is down to your superb singing talent.
Enjoyed every minute of doing it, and thank you again for giving me your blessing.
Big hugs right back to you Bev xxxxx
