Four more poems from my portfolio

This time my four poems that lean a little on the "Dark" side

Dark poem number one "Horrorween"

There was an air of foreboding on the eve, of all hallows day

The ghosts and goblins dodge the wolfs, as they seek out their prey

The occult feels strong tonight my dear, as death and evil add to the fear

Magical charms and witches brew, give power to the efforts of the grim reapers too

Vampires seek to suck out your blood,

And there, the swamp monster drags him-self free from the mud

Ghouls wonder freely with an outstretched limb

Along with the zombies who delight in being grim.

And there a young child, unaware of the danger s

Toffee apple in one hand, trick-a treating with strangers

She knocks on a door which is opened just a crack

And there stands a figure, all dress in black

“Good evening young lady” sounded a deep growling voice

“Trick or treat” cries the child, what is your choice?

A treat you shall have my little pretty one

After all that’s what’s expected, if I should join in the fun

A bagful of sweeties is what you shall get

Now hurry on home and don’t you forget

Never be on your own on Halloweens night

Else you might end up with something more than just a fright.

Number two is called "The Predator" A little something for you to think about

The gazelle is gifted with nimbleness and a certain degree of speed
But still the tiger makes his kill, his, is a greater need
The scavengers await their turn, whilst the tiger feeds her young
Vultures hover over watching, the blood dripping from her tongue
Nature feeds her children amply, in a way that’s fair and just,
Yet man still kills for pleasure for greed and gold and lust
Nature has made us dominant to all the other things?
Or is there another species lurking, somewhere in the wings

"To soon the night" comes next time to reflect

To soon came the night, with its hollow emptiness

I glance up at the stars and become one of the million unknowns

Falling through time and space with no purpose or direction

The darkness seems to have no corners to hide behind

So I wonder aimlessly, waiting for the day to take me to the next point in my worthless life.

Should I end it now? Is there a body; is there a soul that gives a dam?

She had played with me as if I were toy at the mercy of a playful kitten

Should I break free or is there still a hope, dam I know the answer, I have told myself

Many times but still she seems to have this power to control me.

Why should it be me that hurts? I have decided it is her that should be dealt with

So I set out my plan, it would be easy to snuff out her light and I go ahead and execute the deed

Now I sit here in my darkened cell waiting for the executioner to call, and the night surrounds me.

And finally the last of these four is "The Quarry"

I had been stalking my quarry for three days now and I felt I was very near to him

He was a very cunning adversary so I had to use all my guile to find him

It was in the last quarter of the full moon on a misty early morning in December

When I saw him, I had followed his tracks to a clearing in the wood

There he stood, proud, his antlers glistening with the morning’s dew

He looked straight at me and I wondered what was in his mind

Did he think I was the intruder? I waited very still not to scare him

I prepared to shoot; I could see him in my sights my finger was on the trigger

The light was poor but I thought I could somehow use that to help my shot

I steadied myself; he raised his head in a proud movement and looked away from me as if in defiance
I slowly raised my camera and took my shot.

All deliciously chilling-- stirring us to be on the edge ...A wonderful ending to the Quarry, a delightful twist at the end...:0)
