Writing Tips

When people decide to become a freelance writer, many of them think they can write about any subject. They feel that as long as they can research a subject they can write about it. While this is true, the fact is that you will not make a lot of money writing like this. No one wants to read something that sounds like a school report. When you decide to become a freelance writer, you have to understand that people want to read things that are more personal and have been lived by the writer.

So how do you decide what you should write about? Since I began freelance writing, I have done everything from articles to books. I bid on the jobs that interest me. Meaning that if I find a book that needs written on a subject that I personally love or have a ton of personal knowledge about, that is the book I bid on to write. When clients post a job bid about any topic, they know they could go online, research the subject and get the information people are looking for. The fact is so could anyone else. So why would anyone buy a book when the information is freely available online? Personal experience is why.

When you read a book or an article, you feel a connection with the author if they share their personal experiences. I tell you how I struggled to become a freelancer, you feel a connection, and share my determination. You decide if she can do it, I can do it. You would not get the same feelings from me writing a report like article on how to become a freelancer.

What are the things that interest you the most? This is what I generally write about. What is going on in your life? I also write about these topics because, when there is something going on in my life, I tend to do a lot of research on the subject until I have as much knowledge as I can about said topic. Then I can share my knowledge and earn some extra money from it. You should write about the things you have succeeded in as well as the things you have failed in.

Writing doesn't have to be hard, in fact it can be quite easy. Taking your life experiences and sharing them is something people do naturally. We want others to learn from our mistakes or to take what we know and apply it to their own lives. Writing is the way to do that. So if you are struggling to come up with ideas to write about, take a look at your life. What do you know? What are you going through? What have you learned that should be shared with others? When you answer those questions, you will be able to come up with an abundant amount of topics for your articles.

Good luck to all of those who are freelance writing and trying to make it work. Never give up. Determination is the key.

This is very helpful, Brandy. I wish you would have said more about bidding on a book to write as a freelancer. I wouldn't know where to look for that.

If you are looking to write a book, it is easy, just go to the freelance job boards and look for clients who want freelancers to write their books for them. Currently I write about 2 books per week, you earn about 1 dollar per 100 words when you first start out so you can be making 75 bucks in a day just writing a well researched book. Let me know if I can help in any way.
