This is the story of my pet dachshund Lee. Her name was Leda before I got her. She lived a hard life for a dog. Now, she has a good home and is happy. She finally got a forever home.

The day the men in blue came

I was very scared because I know, they were only two options for me; have more puppies or be put in the box and taking away. I would surely die either way.

I remember the day the men in blue came to the puppy mill. There were thousands of them, and they made lots of noises. Noise was not something you heard every day at the puppy mill.

I heard one of the men in blue say: Look at this place, all these poor dogs!

We were stacked in cages to the ceiling, and there were as many cages that would fit in the room. A human could just barely walk in between the rows of the cages.

Another human said,” There must be over a thousand dogs in here. What is going to happen to all of them? Where will the all go? We are going to end up filling up every shelter in the states with all of these dogs.”

Shelter, what was that? I had never heard that word before I wondered what it meant.

They loaded all of the cages into trucks. I was taken to one of these shelters. I was put into a much bigger cage with three other dachshunds. I was not alone anymore. I knew I was not going to end up in the box. I liked this shelter place. The shelter was much better than the puppy mill.

To be continued………….

Final note

Please, do not buy your pets from puppy mills. Puppy Mills need to be closed down. They do not treat the animals well at all. They are bred to death and keep in horrible conditions.

  • adopt an older dog
  • do buy from puppy mills

brendamarie, excellent writing as always. There are so many lessons to be learned in your story. I hope that everyone reads Lee's story. My heart goes out to all the suffering animals in the world. It's so heartbreaking but I will say some stories turn out good.

dog pounds or shelter are much better places to get dogs than puppy mills.

Good for you adopting a dog! I am looking for a dog but it won't be from a puppy mill I want to discourage puppy mills! I am sure Lee is so happy to have your home as her forever home!

those puppy mills are awful, no I would never buy a dog from a puppy mill and I have never bought a dog from a pet shop either.
