"And I galloped along the barren hillside, with the rhythmic pounding of hooves beneath me." ~ Extract from my piece of writing, as well as a discussion about my favourite animal, the proud and majestic horse.

To Gallop

Here's a little piece I wrote a while back.

"Standing there at the peak of the hill, with the dark clouds rolling in from the sea and swallowing up the clear blue sky, I could feel the horse beneath me tense and ready itself for the race against the storm.

As the wind picked up, so did we, as we wheeled around and carefully navigated our way at a loping canter through the rock studded heather. But as we neared the flats of the valley, we showed the land no mercy, as we galloped along the barren hillside, with the rhythmic pounding of hooves beneath me.

His silky black mane whipped my face as we gathered more speed and charged across the glen, and across another hill. His hooves churned up dirt behind us, although I would not have known that we were touching the ground. We flew together.

My eyes watered, and the biting cold caressed my hands, whilst my body worked tirelessly to mould into the surging beast beneath me. And as the great shadow of stormy cloud, the rain lashed down at us, chilling us to the bone.

But still we would never give up, and the roaring thunder claps behind us chased us into a new light, a new day."

Hope you enjoyed my piece! Please comment your feedback! :)

From Scotland, I love the place I've grown up in. Galloping across hills on horses with the wind in my hair is surreal. Live life to the full, don't waste your time.
