Getting Mixed Up

A mans summer turns to winter and he can't do what he used to do, things are left undone and one day melts into another.

Red Apples

Click to listen to Yesterday, by the Beatles

The day was a summer day, beautiful red apples hung heavy on my trees,
All sunshiny they looked good in thick bunches rocking in a light breeze,
Dandelions scattered my back lawn, yellow like loads of little tiny suns,
Daisies crept around uncut boarders, rose buds formed, just little ones.

Wheelbarrow

The garden needs doing my old shed now leans it’ll just fall over one day,
Wheelbarrow has a puncture, bottom’s filled with water it’s rotting away,
My old garden chair’s got tatty, springs have come out, well past its date,
But it’s comfortable, makes me feel good, done a lot thinking in it of late.

Yesterday

My old dog limps along, has arthritis, if he could talk what would he say?
He’s going grey now had great times long walks, we go back a long way,
Old age, gets us all, funny, time drags when you’re young, flies when old,
It’s all a bit sad thinking back to happy yesterdays, if only the truth be told.

Mixed Up

Seem to doing a lot of thinking these days, not much doing, that’s my way,
I mow the lawn in little bits, clean the house in little bits, a little each day,
Days melt together sometimes loose track, had Sunday lunch on Monday,
Thought the rest of the world had got their days mixed up, what can I say?

Your poem resonates within us all, Terry. I take day by day - never know when is the last, but we all inch towards that day! siva

It's sad when animals get old, they look at us asking why we don't make them better again.

Hi Terry! I am new here, and my love is writing (since I have no one to talk to most of the time), and I love my thesaurus, because I love unique words! Carry on dude.

It is funny how we take the time and slow down as we get older. Mostly it is because old bones are hard to argue with.
