God's best creation

Parents, God's biggest present to us. Infant to teenager and then an adult, we are like clay in their hands. They make us what we are. In my future lives too, I want them to be my guiding force. Here's a Birthday gift for you, Dad.

God's biggest present

The father you have been to me and continue to be
How can I ever tell you what you mean to me
I was gifted with words till I penned for you
Have they even made words to describe my love for you

The light of my life, the spirit of my being
The virtues are yours and my vices are mine
Gods biggest present to me
The best father ever there was to be

Never a scowl

Brothers bore with me and Mom shared you with me
When I caused all of you so much agony
You cradled me to peace when all you wanted to do was sleep
There was never a scowl when all I did was howl

Ironing my uniform and shining my shoes
Shooing off mongers and warding off all woes
Buying me mousse and walking me to school
Friends would envy and life was so cool

Teenagers, difficult as they can be
You knew better to deal with me
My weaknesses you tended to and strengths you harnessed
To carve out an adult with all tenderness

My first steps into my life, hesitating and insecure
I walked with your blessing, nervous but assured
I know I have a friend, no matter what
Can there be a better bet

Happy Birthday Papa

Your Birthday today, I don’t know what to say
Happiness and health, and love all the way
I pray you be my guide in all my lives
To be the best daughter, I will strive

Thanks Mr. Siva. My father truly is an amazing human being, almost saintly. I would be very happy with myself if I could be half of what he is.

My dear Vartika,
It is indeed a fine poem and a tribute to your dad.
As a father of two daughters, i could empathize with your dad and imagine how he had groomed you to be a sensitive, caring adult. Keep writing such good poetry straight from the heart..

Beautiful. This is surely the best gift your father must have received in all these years. I wish one day even I could pen down my feelings like this for my parents.

Judy, thank you so much for your liberal praise. I don't think I deserve it. But I am blessed for sure. God has been very kind and respect what HE has given me.

What a memorable fall….

I just fell from the stair case like hell,
was blinded too
and thought of my daughter in you

when I opened my eyes
I found just a step I'd missed …
yet,
twas all the blood oozing about
hot blood perhaps no doubt

I though twould clot of its own
but the nurse did that disown,
put some stringent iodine
to wash all the wound clean
then
the bleeding started again …

no not much more blood was lost
but I could recall my daughters two,
who remain far too

dad are you so blind
to fall from a step or two,
wish we have to give a walking stick to you...
so I thought they’d say…

in a musical whiskey smile
I caught my two sweet ones
one a tear in each eye,
pop you are so far
so why should we cry….

you take care of yourself dear dad
don't make us sad
and waste tears from this distance
which can't wash a drop of blood
this instance...
