Remembering my father on what would have been his 83rd birthday, written in the days following coming home from his funeral.

Goodnight Dad

From my unpublished collection-Pieces Unfinished. This piece is one of many mostly untitled, in my efforts to sort through the onslaught of emotions. Happy Birthday, Dad

As the sun pulls through the clouds, leaving streaks of red
I see you
All I see is you.
It is morning.
And I am heading home
In the parting clouds, you are all I feel.
Afternoon and I am waiting.
Through the smoke of my cigarette, I am touching you
In the hush of evening
Alone.
My tears falling through the empty house
I hear you…

Goodnight Dad.

You made me cry and frankly I am dreading that moment because my father is about 80.
