It is important to introduce yourself when doing something new, this is an idea that it is firstly necessary to say hello then show the world what is important and make a contribution to the intellectual betterment of the planet.

To say Hello

I wanted to introduce myself to people at Wikinut - I did not want to do much other than post a short introduction about myself and the things that I am interested in writing about.

The picture that I have selected as my profile image is that of the barn own, this is an animal that is certainly under threat in the modern world with its habitat being much reduced - historically, the barn owl was Britain’s most common owl species, but today only one farm in about 75 can boast a barn owl nest anywhere on its land, which is a testament to the fact that we have changed so much and not always for the better, this is a wily animal but even its future is threatened.

This shows my heritage, being from the UK, but now living in North America - which seems to be quite common for many of my fellow countrymen that I have met during my travels here after the last fifteen or more years, truth is my homeland is bankrupt and has been for a long time, but with the depth of the current economic recession it is clear that much of our society is in serious trouble, particularly as we face the current recession, which we are likely to suffer for an extended period of time.

Home Truths

I am unashamedly radical and will be telling the truth as I see it, even if there are people that do not like what I say. Truth is that people need to be challenged, challenged in a way that helps people change society for the better, but in doing so one of the watchwords that we must all abide by is to think about things be changing them.

Just because we can do something does not mean we MUST do it.

The symbol of this section is symbolic of the atom, and it is one of man's follies - we have spent much of the past 50 years developing atomic power, yet the truth is we are attempting to put into production something that is highly experimental in nature - the disasters at atomic power-stations there have been many testaments to this, including Fukushima Daiichi which was wiped out as a result of the tsunami that struck Japan a few years ago. There could be a future for nuclear power but we MUST stop experimenting in a live environment.

Above all the economy is one of the major concerns that I have and I do intend to publish some hard-hitting exposes about the current state of the world economy and how the capitalist system is failing this planet. Remember though if I disagree with you then it is nothing personal, it is because there is an alternative that needs to be considered and considered well.

I say in closing once again, just because we can do something does not mean we MUST do it.

All artwork comes from a royalty-free clip-art collection purchased many years ago from IMSI.

Steve I have seen a few of your pages and think there will be many things we will agree on, but others where I can see we will agree to differ.

The jungle? Hmmm... sounds like a challenge, but I have seen some good writers here, but some bad ones as well.

Hello Grant;
I am interested in seeing what your radical ideas are all about. Whether or not I agree with is another story. The problem with too many people in this world is that if they don't agree with you they are offended. That's too bad, because ideas other than our own cause us to think, that is if we are open minded. I hope you will read my article, "Hate." It deals with this idea. more or less.

Ron, The issue is not always about agreement, but about sowing the seed and airing things for discussion.

Good to meet you Grant!

It is refreshing to hear that someone isn't afraid of being honest, you know exactly where you stand! People are so frightened of being honest that they tell you stuff you want to hear, and how we can learn that way?

Trouble is Reese it is a part of human nature to back away from telling people tough things, we have always learned to sugar-coat things.

Great introduction, Grant. We already agree on something, that the UK is a bankrupt society. I'm from London, but London (like the rest of the UK) is a shambles. Still good for the tourists, but they only see the glossy bits.

Good afternoon, Grant. As with so many other sites, there are varied opinions on just about any subject. I appreciate the diversity. "Owl" was a childhood nickname as you could usually find me, late at night, under the covers with a flashlight and book. Welcome to Wikinut. ~Marilyn
