We can choose our own self motives or we can seek that of the Holy Spirit.

Green Acres: City or Farm

Green Acres is the place to be.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.

When they didn’t work fast enough, supervisors whipped their workforces. The slaves were driven to produce heavy bricks. A quota was set and then reset. The work load was increased. The sun beat down upon their toil. Everything they produced was for a greedy foreigner. It was a prison camp.
One night came. It was a darkness the foreign power didn’t expect. In the slave masters home, for the oldest child, life stopped. In deep grief they expelled the slaves. Millions of men, women and children began their trek. They were freed from the bondage of slavery.
Thankfulness of freedom turned to ingratitude of independence.
“Why can’t you take care of us?”
“We were taken care of.”
“Where is the vegetables we use to have?”
“I want meat. Where is the meat?”

On and on it went. The complaining ascended to feverish levels. They wanted to go back. Did they forget the whips and the heavy work? They wanted to be taken care of. EXODUS
What do Green Acres and this story have in common? A dream of something better – only it’s not better. – “The actions that are produced by selfish motives are obvious, doing whatever feels good.” Galatians 5:19 “The actions that are produced by the Spirit of God are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” 5:22
I would rather be in a dessert with peace in my heart than in the richest mansion with self-motives in my heart.
