It seems that the World Wide Web has become like a pain in the arse for some folks.

Hands off my Internet!

All of us knew about censorship on the Internet in China some time ago. There was a big revolt, because Chinese also wanted to use the World Wide Web like everyone else in the world.
Not very long ago, I read that Barack Obama was asking for more restrictions on the use of the Internet.
On July 1st., 2015, censorship on the Internet has been imposed in Spain. the government claims that it´s to stop people searching and viewing certain sites. Thus, if someone views sites that are branded as terrorist ones or posts photographs of policemen that have abused people in demonstrations on social networks, they´ll be charged with heavy fines and even with jail sentences. They don´t make it clear though about what sort of terrorism.
The truth is that since the World Wide Web exists, it´s given a chance to millions of people in the world to get unbiased information that we wouldn´t get otherwise, because we can´t expect to know about the real story of what´s happening in the world by watching TV news.
It was thanks to the Internet that many of us found out of the issue on September 11th. What they told us on TV and on the media was a big lie. One only has to listen to architects and structure engineers, including the ones who built the towers that that couldn´t happen that way.
It was through the Internet that many people have found out about corporatocracy and the role of economic hit men.
Writers and historians use the Internet for their research work. They have to view specific sites several times during their work. Will they be branded as terrorists if the sites they visit aren´t of a government´s likes?
Firstly, it was China to forbid the use of Internet. Then, Barack Obama asks for more restrictions on the Internet. Now it´s Spain. Who will be next?
It seems that the Internet is becoming like a pain in the arse for those folks that want to rule out the world and they don´t want us to know much.

I agree with you. Any restriction on the use of Internet is a retrograde step.

It may well be the case that people are able to learn about a whole new set of lies!

As with any source of information, you need to ascertain its origin before knowing whether it is trustworthy or not. Unfortunately, the Web gives opportunities for untrustworthy people to appear to be the opposite, thus sowing the seeds of confusion.

That said, that is no excuse for censorship. I am all in favour or freedom of expression and of free access to all sources of information. However, I am also in favour of people being educated as to how to recognise lies and misleading sources when they see them.

I agree with you that online there´s a lot of information on all sort of issues. Some of them can be trust, but others can´t, but then we´ve to be clever enough as well as how to research to know which is good and which is not and I know well that many wicked people hide behind their computers trying to confuse us, but this isn´t a reason to impose censorship on the Internet. The Internet was born free and so it has to be.

It is free for all now but people who post have also to take some responsibility. That said, I oppose censorship - siva

One of my grandfathers used to say that there´s many wicked people in the world, but there´re also many good ones and we´re fortunate that the good ones abound for more than the wicked ones. I hope you understand what I mean with this.
