Harbored Memory

Memories are shadows of the past that play within our minds, sweeter and dearer than reality, at the darkest times in our lives....

Harbored Memory

Time lost its way and came to rest
on the rocky shore of a tiny fishing village.
Here in this misty morning light-
Tucked in the picture book of my mind,
The tender gray of yesterday
Is a soft whisper...

A faded shade beneath the rugged pines,
More beautiful than ever before.
As time unwinds-

1958

My home atop of the hill
Welcoming me still,
With the familiar slam of the old screen door.
There before me, busy in her kitchen,
my apron-clad grandmother,
filling the pantry with sweet memories.
And granddad,
Leaving his lobster boat moored,
Drudging from up the shore,
Whistling as he strides.

That familiar sound,
Across the stillness of the bay,
Echoing to this day...

2011

The fields stretch down
To the ocean’s bank,
Where I stand now white haired,
But see, the child,
That red-haired long ago me....

The sky soft with clouds
That fall deep into the sea...
Loneliness lingers
Upon the fog horns plea.

Just like the song "Photographs and Memories" by Jim Croce, Delicia. Evokes fond memories and feelings of nostalgia. Thanks great friend for the share.

Hello Crystal, such a place is now fifty years gone, but the new is lovely too, childhood memories... I pray to pass happy ones on to my grandchildren... it is only right because it was my grandparents heritage:0) Thanks Crystal and I hope today you find a quiet spot and enjoy a thought of pure happiness my friend!

Awww Delicia, you once again touch my heart in so many ways. I like you find, it is so important to be a strong influence on our grands. I just adored my grandparents and I want my grandson to have that same feelings when he thinks of me throughout his life. Now, I do hope I am here to share a lot of his time here, as he just makes me smile from my face to my soul. Another beautiful work of art my friend. Mike's photos are just gorgeous, as usual. Congrats on the star page hon, it is well deserved. Thank you for sharing.:)

Such beautiful memories. Your poetry takes me right there with you. Steve took me to the coast of Maine several years ago and these photos bring back those memories for me. I would love to come there again during the fall season..Thank you, Delicia.
