Troy Aikman is highly esteemed in Texas..one town took it a step further.

America's Team

Troy Aikman is for all intents and purposes considered to be royalty in Texas. He quarterbacked America’s Team….the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories in the 1990s. One town took it to a new extreme when they renamed the town Troy Aikman, Texas. The town is normally known as Troy. It was so cool to drive through the town during that brief time as they city limit signs read Troy Aikman and then listed the population.

I have a cousin that worked for Troy Aikman in his car dealership. At that time, he said Aikman didn’t spend much time at the business. But, he said one Saturday morning he brought his kids to work because of a babysitting scheduling difficulty. It was against the policy of the car dealership, but he felt like he didn’t have a choice.

Of course, on that particular Saturday morning Troy Aikman actually showed up. My cousin was fearful he would get in trouble over the infraction. His kids were being good and staying in his office. Aikman went to his office and dropped off his briefcase. A few minutes later, he poked his head into my cousins office and said, “Come on kids.” He then took them to his office and played computer games with them. Troy Aikman is a first class act in my book. I’m not sure I would name a town after him…but, he is a great man.

Believe it or not, Tony, I have actually driven through Troy a few times, when driving south from Waco.

Jerry...I love that stretch of I-35. Used to be a great BBQ place in Lorena.
