Hell on Earth

A soul destroying job that will last a lifetime. Working in an Iron foundry six days a week. Too tired to enjoy a Sunday off with family.

Hell on Earth

Reverberations from the hammers as they strike a carbon hardened anvil,
Roaring hot furnaces blaze and glow, sparking golden molten fountains,
The sound of men beating red hot steel, flattening the steel for tools,
Liquid iron runs along asbestos gutters into shaped molds then cooled.

Many a mans hands still cleave the filth and grease even after washing,
Nightmares about working makes each day seem longer than it really is,
Shoulders aching from heavy iron carried from one work place to another,
Some wretch as they dress coughing up blue asbestos they swallow each day.

Climbing into dirty overalls cold and wet from yesterday's sweat and dirt,
Starting from six in the morning twelve long hours to six in the evening,
Eyes heavy body aching hands numb from hammering another day lost in hell,
Real Hell on earth, a man wonders how his path took him in this direction.

Does anyone respect or sympathize with these men, a Herculean daily grind,
Do people outside this grim workshop realize but for the Grace of God go I,
Can you imagine the heat, deep depression eating away at their very souls,
Their pain, unimaginable some of these soulless men pray for an early grave.

Eyes are dull their heads hang slightly down, they have lost their spirit,
Cannot find enthusiasm for anything outside as a day off is needed to rest,
There families do not understand why they do not enjoy time off on a Sunday,
Home life ruined from many years of hate and despair, end in hate and despair.
