development of the small christian comunities

Without going back to Jesus community. Basic Christian community ( BCC ), as they are known in the Latin America, began in Brazil six years before the opening of the second Vatican council in 1961. In Brazil and the whole of Latin America, liberation of persons grounded on the living of God was the focus of SCCs which aimed at creating a just world inherent in all human activities.
In a plenary assembly of the AMECEA Bishops, which was held in Nairobi,December 1973, the Bishops demanded the need to put into being the program of the SCCs, in all the Dioceses of the Eastern Africa countries.

The main purposes was to make the church to be more local , so as to meet the African demands , which in essence was to bring about localization of of the church in an attempt to complement the Church doctrines with the African way of thought and worship. AFER (1974 ) “To foster the growth of the SCCs, the Bishops pledged to advocate for ministering within the grassroots level that will in a way generate self support which is to eventually encourage the church participation in a more harmonized way”.

The idea of SCCs came after the Bishops felt the need to adopt a program that would help the church to be more in touch with the context of the of its operations in relation with the people it serves. The church hence needed to be helped in adapting the perceived objective to encourage a growth in the worship and living situation of the people in a collaborative manner.

The establishment of SCCs thus did sought to influence a better way of living in the church communion which builds the church as a family of God , whereby there is commitment to transform the society into a community of love , respect which brings the kingdom of god in our midst’.
