Wahoo are a top prize game fish the world over. They are named because when 1st hooked they make very fast, long, drag sizzling runs. Often the angler will shout out: "Wahoo!!!"
The bigger they get, the more badass they become!
Enjoy!

Hoo's Yer Daddy

We were trolling on another beautiful day in the blue.
We stared out at our spread, all our baits tracking true.
Then a rod just doubled over and the reel started to scream.
It was like we hooked into a dragster, or at least so it would seem.
I couldn't get it out of the holder, the pressure was just too much.
And when I grabbed the sides of the reel, they felt warm to the touch.
I put on my fighting belt, while my friend slowed us down.
Still the reel’s smoking drag was the most prominent sound.
“It’s gotta be a wahoo!” I yelled as I got out the rod.
And I snapped into the harness and gave my friend the nod.
With that he leaned on the throttles and backed us into the seas.
Then a wave came over the transom, and I was knocked to my knees.
I got back up just in time to gain a couple cranks.
And with each and every hard earned turn, I gave many thanks.
But then the line went slack and I reeled at super speed.
So my friend slammed us into forward, to give me the help that I’d need.
Next you could hear the line slicing the sea, as the slack came tight.
It left an awesome bubble trail. What an incredible sight!
Then rod bent down hard and the line smoked once again.
This time only a hundred yards and I smiled to my friend.
Without a word he put us into neutral, and then got out the gaff.
This time, at least, it seemed, we would have the last laugh.
He dropped the gaff, grabbed the leader and pulled the fish to the boat.
And as he did, it circled upside down and then just started to float.
I grabbed the gaff quickly and with one heart pounding swing,
I sunk the hook home perfectly, what a beautiful thing!
It took both me and my buddy, to get it into the boat.
Then the deck turned all red, with a thin bloody coat.
It looked to be about eighty-five pounds, my biggest one yet.
All we could do was to stand there and stare, both of us covered in sweat.
As we realized we’d won the battle, we high fived and cracked open beers,
And all of the boats for miles around, could hear us as we cheered.
Some say of all of the game fish, the Wahoo is the best.
There's one thing I can guarantee, that you’ll be put to the test!
