How Would Life Have Been Different?

I was working at one job...but, offered another. How would my life be different had I accepted it?

Different Life?

In June of 1978, I was hired to work at a McDonald’s in Fort Worth, TX. I was hired at $2.65 an hour. I had also applied at a few other places to include the Winn Dixie grocery store a few miles away. I had been working at the McDonald’s for a couple of months when I got the phone call offering to interview me for a position at the grocery store for I think $2.90 an hour. I was very tempted but let the opportunity pass. I felt I needed to stay at McDonald’s because they had believed in me enough to hire me.

I met my future wife at that McDonalds who I would also divorce many years later. I could have saved myself the heartache of ever getting involved with her if I had accepted the job at the grocery store. I also wonder if I would have the same weight problem I do now if I had worked at a grocery store instead of a fast food hamburger restaurant. I would go on to management positions at McDonald’s and develop a taste for the golden arches food.

It’s amazing to me when I look back at the many forks in the road. How could I know I was determining the future of my life by turning down a grocery store job? I may have avoided much heartache had I said yes. But, then again I could be dead by now if I had taken that position. In the end, I must trust that the Lord has me right where he wants me in spite of myself.

We can wonder and we can wonder. It mostly just wastes time. We're where we're supposed to be, as I think your article shows. Thanks for sharing.
