How a sweet little kitten wormed her way into my heart

The powers of an innocent, gray tabby kitten over three humans.

Princess Gracie

Princess Gracie is a cat – well technically a kitten really – who “belonged” to my female room mate. She is a gray tabby with a white chin and throat, tiny paws, a well-rounded stomach, and big swiveling ears. When I moved in on June 1, 2010 with my current two room mates, the last thing I wanted was to have a cat. Oh, I love cats and have had them for many years, but I have had to downsize from a two-story townhouse to a small 8x10 feet room because of disability and lack of money – the latter caused by the former.

Anyway, Princess Gracie – called Gracie for short – is a spunky cat, even for a kitten. What I don’t like about her is that she likes going outside. I don’t want her outside so she won’t get hurt, but previous owners and the owner of the house where I live now put her outside, so now she is used to it. She also likes messing with the house plants and of course the blinds – typical kitten behavior. What I do like about her, and what attached her to me, is how friendly she is. She purrs a lot and is very vocal (and social). Even when she “talks”, she purrs while she meows. She also likes to lay on laps and the bed of course. There are two other cats in the house and she gets along with them well. She is also pretty fearless, you can step over her and she is not skittish at all like some other cats would be in that situation.

Yes, she has attached herself to me and we railroaded the owner of the house in letting her stay. So, I guess I have a cat now – seems that way since I bought her a pretty collar and toys, as well as special canned cat food treats for dinner.

i don't like cats very much. but your account of gracie made me feel like having cats wouldn't be so bad.
i live in a dormitory now and the cats live freely here. one of them gave birth recently. they (the cat and her kitten) sort of live outside my room~ (^_^)

Thanks for you comment. Haha indeed cats (and kittens) have a way of converting people. :)

but a cat bit my mom before, which explains why i hated them somehow. but i guess that cat was just different and not at all representative of normal ones.

Well, I was bit by a small dog when I was a child. Though it was probably the owner's fault, I have been scared of dogs ever since. While I have owned two (well they were my exes really) I am still definitely more a cat person

Best of luck with Princess Gracie, Alex. I'm sure you two will get along just fine.
I hope your roommate will agree to have Gracie spayed when the times comes, so no unwanted kittens are born.

Actually, I already took that matter in my own hands and Gracie has an appointment with the SPCA on August 18.
