Many writers at Wikinut produce wonderful informative pages that would be easily found through search engines if only the authors made a few simple changes. Keep reading, I'm going to give you all the answers you need to write a great Wikinut page.

Getting Started

Wikinut has a great tool that will enable you to send a note about your page to the moderator. As you are filling in your title and summary areas be sure to utilize this opportunity to let your moderator know if your page is re-published or original, or if you wrote it on another site under a different pen name. Simply fill in the information in the box marked "Notes for the Moderator".

How to Select a Title for a Wikinut Page

Your title is the first impression anyone will have of your page. Select a title that clearly states what your page is about. Then make sure that you have it capitalized correctly. There are a few different schools of thought on this and Wikinut doesn't have any requirements other than that you don't use all CAPITALS. This will result in your page being immediately rejected. The next step of writing a good title is to make sure that you've used proper grammar and everything is spelled correctly.

Let's Look at a Few Examples:

Good: How to Install a Dishwasher
Okay: Installing a Dishwasher
Bad: Kichen plumming- putting in a dishwasher

Good: How I Learned to Ride a Bicycle
Okay: Learning to ride a bike at age 5
Bad: bike ridding for all ages

While the "Bad" titles are labeled as bad, the thought is good, but the spelling and grammar make them bad titles. Make sure that your title is a complete thought and conveys the information that a reader will find on your page.

How to Write a Wikinut Page Summary

A page summary is your chance to tempt people to read the whole page. You don't want to simply use a section of your page as the summary. This will cause your page to be rejected. Just like the title of your page your summary should have proper spelling and grammar as well as punctuation and information.

Just to put this firmly in your head look at the following examples of a summary:
A. Step by step instructions to install a dishwasher, that anyone can follow. Ladies here is your chance to surprise the hubby with a new dishwasher that he doesn't even have to install!
B. Learn to put a diswasher in the kitchen, few tools and st make housecleaning easier.
C. Begin by pulling the old dishwasher out of the counter area.

Now which one of these most makes you want to read the page?
A. is the best,
B. would be good if there weren't typos, missing words and misspellings.
C. would be a great first sentence for the page but not as a summary.

Not only is the summary your chance to "sell" your page, it is also important to having your page accepted on Wikinut. Moderators will reject your page based on the summary.

How to Write a Wikinut Page

Once you have your title and summary you get to tackle the actual page writing. This is what you've been waiting for since you clicked the link to "Write New Page", so let's go!

Write your first section title to let readers know what they can expect to find in that paragraph. Then write your paragraph using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Once you have completed and proofread that paragraph simply click on the blue tab at the bottom of the section to "Add New Section", repeat the process of writing a section title and paragraph. Repeat until you have written your whole page.

See this is the easy part, the fun stuff comes next!

How to Format Your Wikinut Page and Impress Your Moderator

This is where you have a chance to make your page shine! Each of the additional formatting options that require an action are placed in each section of your page for you to easily "jazz up" your presentation.

The most important thing at this stage is to select an image (1 or more) to complement your page. After you have added photos you can go over your page once again to look for typos, missing words and grammar or punctuation errors. As you do this last proofread is the opportune time to do a little formatting:

  • If you have any type of list make sure to bullet or number the items.
  • Make important items bold or place a quote in italics.
  • Insert valid links to more information about your page and to your other pages that are on a similar topic.

Each of these steps allow you to make certain parts of your page stand out, and will impress both moderators and readers with your perfectly put together page.

How to Tag and Classify Your Wikinut Page

Tags are very important for finding your page. To understand a little more about how tags, and keywords work be sure to check out the Chief Nut's page about SEO.
But to put it simply you want to include every word that someone might put in a search engine to find what your page is about.
For example, if your page is about Windows 7, your tags would be quite extensive and should include: computers, operating systems, windows, software, OS, Programs, Windows 7, PC, Laptop, New OS and anything else you can think of that is related to that topic.

The classification part of your page actually takes place when you first begin the page, but you have a chance to go back and change it if you discover that it should be in another section.
For example, if you have written a poem about exercising and initially classify it as exercise and health but then realize that it would be better in the poetry section you can easily make that change before hitting the publish button.

The great thing about Wikinut is that when a page is rejected you have the opportunity to correct what was wrong and get your page published. By following the steps and making sure that you proofread carefully there is no reason why each and every writer on Wikinut shouldn't have at least one "Star Page".

This is very helpful information. I just used it to write my second WikiNut page! The only question that I have is about the specific formatting. Is it alright if we use HTML hyperlinking for listing sources?

The link button or html is fine to list sources as far as I know. Sources are not required.

@Kelraye78 read this page: http://guides.wikinut.com/Adding-links-into-Wikinut-articles/1th0kh3d/

You can't use HTML to add links, but you can either use the "Link" button on the editor or learn the very simple Wikinut formatting commands.

The easiest way is to use the editor's "Link" button. Even easier than learning HTML ;)

This is fantastically helpful, thanks Suzalicie. :)
Though, I think that the content of the page is the most important thing; even with great formatting and perfect proofreading etc. it is the subject matter which will determine whether or not your page is popular (or becomes a star page).

Suzalicie,

I read this page once agin, but I could not get clarified about getting a page shifted to another category.

I erroneously published this page http://www.wikinut.com/hanuman-is-my-superman/107wtb9c/1j7n6v20/ under Reviews>Websites but I wanted it under Writing>Personal Experiences.

Yes Thank you for this SuzAlicie,
I suffer from get it done and up now, because I am so over working myself to increase my Sites Foot print and it is a delicate balencing act to grow everything all together as there is so much of it now over 25 different sites I use and or participate in. I so need to find an editor for I even screw up often times when I have a spellchecker working. I truly need to schedule time to edit and place images into many of my write here and else where. And this is why I love the sites I use for they let me always improve upon my works. Thanks again Donnie/ Sinbad the Sailor Man
