Many fall short of surviving the oppression that takes hold of their life.

I Can't

I can't breathe
The suffocation of life has taken its toll on me
The oppression of your hands leave bruises and marks of your wrath
A wrath that has taken hold of you like a virus
The kind of virus only a certain type of medication can completely eradicate
The goal has never been to eradicate the virus
The goal has been to treat the symptoms only
My neck is swollen
My legs and arms are bleeding
I still can't breathe
I wave my invisible white flag
I shout the safe word I was taught to say
But the pressure still remains
I struggle to break free
Then a pop, a snap, a crack
The last bit of the essence that makes me me has expired
I gave into the oppression that had me bound
Those who cared for me mourn me
Those who talked about me are held up in a corner laughing
Those who tried to save me vow to save the next

Breathe, Death, Oppressed
