I Have Learned

I wrote this article as part of the requirement for a wonderful online course I took called "42daysofwriting." This course taught us how to write in the flow of consciousness genre letting my ideas flow on paper without reservation.

Introduction

This article is another article from the 42daysofwriting group. This group was so inspiring for writers in terms of the prompts for writing. However, more importantly was the transformation of writers into more competent loving and compassionate individuals.

Love and understanding

I have learned that just because somebody says I love you, does not necessarily make it so.
I have learned that just because somebody doesn't say I love you in words, does not mean it is not shown in actions.
I have learned that not doing something for someone and justifying he or she will understand is often a cope out.
I have learned that even the busiest more understanding person needs time to be loved and understood as well.
I have learned to to give love without words.
I have learned that even the best relationship need love and constant care. These are the very things which made them the best relationships in the first place.
I have learned that sometimes a person just needs to vent, they don't want or need advice. What they want is someone to listen to them.
I have learned that the angriest children and grownups are sometimes the very people that need love the most.
I have learned that when a person pushes away from you, it can be when he/she needs you the most.
I have learned that when a person pushes away from you, perhaps you have come on too strong.

I have learned we are human and we make mistakes

I have learned to stop pointing fingers at others when something is wrong and take responsibility for my own wrong actions.
I have learned that there is a time to trust someone and a time to mistrust someone and to find the balance between the two.
I have learned to forgive.
I have learned that once I forgive then I must let the transgression go. I can no longer harp on it. I may not forget it; but, I must not give bringing it up to the person on every occasion. This in and of itself means that I have not really forgiven for I am not able to let it go and move on.
I have learned to respect my own personal space as well as the space of others.
I have learned that I do not always have to be right to have people love and respect me.
I have learned that I am human and make I mistakes just like everyone else.

You also impress me with your level of self-trust, and belief in yourself.

Just writing down all of that stuff that you have learned, is one more step than I could ever take.

I admit to learning nothing. I don't seem to value my learning.

That course seems like a very fine one indeed, especially as it has done what you said for you,

"However, more importantly was the transformation of writers into more competent loving and compassionate individuals."

spirited, you have have lived on this earth for more than half a century you have learned much more than you give yourself credit for. As a therapist (retired) I invite you to do your own list of things you have learned. Self affirmations are important for the nourishment of the soul.
