I tell about how much I love to garden and what I had planned to grow.

I Love to Garden

This year I planned to grow a garden. I haven't taken the time to do so in a couple of years, because I just couldn't seem to find the time. When I had the time, I felt too tired to do anything. Since I've given the ground two years of rest, it was ready to welcome new life. Gardening takes a lot of work. You have to plow the land, then till it. You take your seeds then place them at least 6 inches apart. You must make sure to pull weeds out of your garden, to keep them from taking nutrients away from your seedlings. The weeds will smother your precious plants.

I have been doing research about medicinal herbs. There are so many herbs I want to grow. I already have rosemary, oregano, parsley, and coriander. I grew some dill, chives and summer savory. All of these are cooking herbs as you may know. I had planned to buy more herbs for both cooking and medicinal uses. I never got around to it, though. I started these inside my house, but I couldn't plant them outside until I was sure there would be no more cold temperatures.

I also started some vegetables seeds inside. You wont believe it. My corn plants needed to be planted in the ground, but I knew I would lose them if it got too cold. They were already 3 inches tall before I could plant them. I had at least 30 plants and I planned to get more seed. Again, it didn't happen. I had different kinds of beans, carrots, onions, bell peppers and various types of hot pepper seeds sprouting. My kitchen looked like a green house before this past spring.

I wanted to grow different types of tomatoes too. I love to grow what I eat. Grocery prices are getting ridiculous. A few months ago, one of our customers brought Ghost pepper seeds for me and a young girl I work with. He told me that I would have to wear gloves to touch the seeds. He said they are so hot that I would need only a small piece of one pepper to spice my chili recipe. I am a little afraid of these peppers, but they just might make a good natural insecticide against some bugs. I know cayenne pepper powder will keep some insects off my garden plants, and so will a spraying of mild dishwashing liquid.

I didn't have the results I wanted, but I did collect enough for myself to eat. I even froze a little. I still have peppers growing in pots on my front porch. I just love watching things grow and know I had a hand in it. I will try to have a better crop again next spring.
