Imagination, the Most Powerful Thing People Posess

Have you ever been trapped by your imagination? Truth is thought and imagination is a wonderful thing, it helps us through all the steps of life.

Never Imprisoned by Thought

Should a writer suffer the misfortune of being imprisoned then that should never be a problem, provided their imagination remains in tact especially if God confided in them at that point that he was an atheist and any other earth shattering proposition. Of course such a idea would set the cat amongst the pigeons whether in the mind of a true believer or an atheist, this would be a great challenge to what could be achieved by thought, but the question remains about why would god make such an admission? The world of a writer is a complex one and it is there to take us on a journey, yet this journey is controlled by two people, the writer who weaves the story, setting the boundaries creating the flow, the movement, the words spoken, moving the thought in one direction then another, each reader also has some control by applying their imagination to the words in front of them. How wide the reader's imagination impacts their interpretation of the story being told.

Of course there are a myriad of readers and each garner their own special understanding of the writer's words. Use loose words or sentences and the reader has to imagine a wider scope than if the path of the story is controlled tightly by the words of the writer.

Honesty of course sits alongside imagination as one of the pillars of society, yet we see examples of dishonesty daily, especially with people in authority or those that should be assisting others. Salesmen, politicians and other people are dishonest all the time and here the word dishonesty is used quite deliberately - there are people who use mistruths as a deliberate tactic for every day activities, but this essay is not about dishonesty, but to discuss this only in respect of the thinking of people. It is not the intention to call every person a liar, we are capable of imagination so we are all capable of telling mistruths to one degree or other, which of course may be considered an exploration of the human darker side. Most people however are basically honest with the exception they tell the occasional white lie usually to save themselves, such as telling the police officer they were not speeding when they knew they were.

Most times the honesty we apply in real life does not have an opportunity to catch up with the depths of imagination, but on certain occasions it has to take over and control your life, is that good or bad? It is what it is and truth is we do need imagination as an important part of our lives. Overall it is important to never stop looking for what's not really there, we go to a book store to look for a tool to help us imagine a little more, same is also true of the role of TV and the movies. Imagination is a wonderful thing and it is an essential part of our lives and even in real life we use imagination to make things happen, the gridiron field goal kicker imagines scoring but the defence imagines how they can block the ball, anything can happen as the action unfolds and here the imagination builds upon the instructions the coach gives each side as the time-out time ticks on.

Imaging this...

The young ballerina, dancing on stage for the first time with the Bolshoi Ballet, imagines one day she will dance in a leading role...

The young first-baseman steps up to the plate for his first major league at bat for the New York Yankees, imagines hitting a home run, the prefect way to start his major league career...

The young football star is walking out on the field to play for Byern Munich against Manchester United imagines scoring a hat trick of goals...

The business major started her first day working for the marketing department in her local conglomerate and imagines the day she will be selected as the new CEO of the corporation...

A young programmer imagines how one day he will write the program that will go viral and make him a fortune...

With imagination there is a whole world of possibilities. We have to imagine or envisage how everyday things will happen as well as the most fanciful, without such an ability our future are very limited indeed.

The Story

The flip side to imagination is the ability to write a story for children about a lonely elephant who befriends a family of mice in a local village and stops them from being attacked by the village cats. Well there is the imagination of the writer at work, both imagining a situation then making a story out of the concept, but of course with stories is that the storyteller can always make the impossible possible because the average East-Indian reader has been ready to jump up and tell me that Elephants are afraid of mice, which is precisely the point of the writer's words, to make the impossible possible through the words of a tale.

Of course there is a difference between using your imagination within the bounds of your life or your work and the imagination used for storytelling but normal rational people can tell the difference. Indeed it could be argued that we need to utilise both types in order to complete or lives because when our boss tells us the vision that they have for the work we are completing then we are able to picture that goal, but at the same time relate it to the practical things we need to accomplish everyday and at the same time imagine the new reality.

The Play on Words

The writer uses words to portray powerful concepts and they play with words to help build ideas. To demonstrate their imagination they may use a collection of possibilities to express themselves, perhaps by using wordplay and little ditties, sometimes they will (deliberately?) show muddled thinking as well as moments of clarity, certainly have favourite words or phrases, but know that the sentence is the foundation for your expression, and it is necessary to respect the language, but remember that a writer has a duty to challenge the mind in demonstrating new ideas and concepts.

Imagination is Power

Imagination, sure is a powerful thing and the more we use it the more it empowers us.

Listen for a moment to Josiah Mozloom, who thinks that imagination is in short supply, he is a man after my own thinking, this is 7 minutes long but worth every moment of it and I do ask you to use your claporator at the end of it.

I love your title Peter, with the obvious irony within the miss-spelled word "possess", as "posess"

Imaginative word-play!!

Not sure how it will go on a Google search though?

Spirited and Siva - with the eyes not being what they used to be I do make the occasional error.

Nice take and video too, thanks Peter for this share. We can be alone but not feel lonely thanks mainly to imagination. Imagination can take us anywhere ,everywhere, in nanoseconds from the birth of the universe to its end! We can be with the dinosaurs or in the shoes of sporting legends. We can even become invisible to spy on anybody in any state! siva

Because Imagination can take us anywhere and make anything possible we are not limited by the bounds of the physical realm, but the problem is that we live in the physical realm and to some extent at least we have to imagine based on real life and real possibilities.
