People and organizations have no idea what the word,"free" actually means. I always thought it meant one thing, but it seems it has a different meaning for others.

It is Free

In the past several years I have noticed something bewildering. As a young person growing up sometimes my family and I would be somewhere and something would say an item was free. We would walk over to the area and the person would be handing out free items. No money was exchanged and no credit cards were taken. The item actually was free. How many times have we seen on the internet or in other types of advertisements that something was advertised free and next thing we know they are asking for your charge card number or bank account number.
That is not free and as far as I am concerned it is false advertising.when an individual, company or organization says or prints that something is free and then says the customer has to pay money for the item. They are lying to their customers and it is not a good way to bring customers in. It makes a person wonder what else they are lying about.
A few years ago after I had finished with a job I was waiting for my ride to come and get me. While I waited a lady came in with several plates of cookies and set them on a table and she put up a sign that told people the cookies were free. Several people came up and asked her how much she wanted for the cookies. She had to reassure them that the cookies were free. They all took a cookie, but at the same time they were waiting for her to say that they had to pay. They could not comprehend that the sign that said, "free" on it meant that the cookies were free. Even though it was just a cookie that was free all of them were baffled that somebody would give out a free item without a hidden agenda behind the word,"free."
We need to go back to the time when an individual, company or organization said or printed the word,"free," that it actually meant free and not just a method to entice people to look or buy their product.

It is more of a gimmick than actual reduced prices.

When it says free it should mean free.
