This article is a part of a series of uplifting thoughts for each day of the year, by Peter B. Giblett, which by living through each day and changing ourselves for the better should lead to a better and more successful year.

Start giving Something of you and Turn this into a Giving Year

We often think of Christmas as the season of giving, the time when we offer our best thoughts to even the most remote stranger. Well why can't we simply do this at any time of the year, someone whispered during the seasonal festivities - an interesting thought and the logic behind this idea.

So here is what we all need to do, we should spend the day doing good deeds for others. One way to start this is by providing a simple smile to those that we encounter in normal situations - the man in the ticket office at your local station, the parking attendant, the school crossing guard and anyone else you meet who is simply performing their daily role. Wish them the best day they have ever had. See what affect it has on them.

Doing a Good Deed for Someone in Your Network

Today is the first day of the year to do a good deed for someone else. This deed needs to only be a small thing, not necessarily costing any of us any money. It is simply about assisting someone else in some small way. Remember is assisting another person it is not about assisting them in a way that is important to you, but in a way that is important to them. This is something personal that must be gleamed from the relationship that the two of you share.

One small step in helping someone else will help us in ways that we cannot possibly imagine.

Very well stated, Peter. We should all endeavor to do something good for someone everyday. But let us not limit our doing of good deeds to people, let us not forget the animals that need our help too.

Very good point - animals do need our thoughts as well. I was pleased to spend a few minutes with our charming kitten Melody - she will purr at anything so she gives at every opportunity.

Very true, Peter. Companion animals like cats and dogs are the only creatures that know the true meaning of and practice giving unconditional love.

I am amazed by how many people are following this series. I expected the occasional reader and very few comments. I would like to thank you all for giving me the encouragement to make this series a success.

One of my all time favorite movies is Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner . My favorite line from that movie is, "If you build it, he will come." To paraphrase that line, "If you write quality content, they will come." If a content writer write quality cont (which you always do) the readers and followers will come.

I agree with Jerry, you write quality so we do come. I am never disappointed in your work. I know some people have made great strides to better our world but, I have always said "It is the small good deeds the average person does, that makes this world go around'. Very nice read Peter. Thank you for sharing.:)

Peter, a good place to break into print for the unpublished writer is the trade magazines. Check out my article on Factoidz on that subject. Here's the link http://factoidz.com/the-trade-magazines-and-the-freelance-writer/ The trades are much more receptive to writers with no published clips. The trade pub editors are more interested in a writer's ability to produce quality articles than they are in whether the writer has ever been published before.

I'm always giving - I'm a wife and a mother and the tender of two cats. Course I'm always GIVING of myself. Little time for me, actually.

I like your pages, Peter. Reading them makes me feel that I am lining myself up to do better.
